Observation Rock Lodge Stewart Island — Hotel in Stewart Island / Rakiura Community

We stayed 4 days at Observation Rock Lodge. The place is beautiful, cozy, the view and garden are amazing however, I am sad to report that quite a few items were missing in our suitcase and things: Brand new containers of complements (vit C, vit E, iron) have been emptied, some were on the table but others were in our bag and suitcase ! 3 tubes of cream, hair primer and lubricant were also 3/4 emptied. 3 boxes of crackers, an avocado, = 1 pair of white Indian kurta pants, a blue sweat shirt with a blue hood. I am detailing these as a warning for future guests ! The room we were in (room 1) could not be locked. This unpleasant incident has left us with a bitter taste, after such a wonderful stay on Stewart island. We mentioned the problem to Annett, she seemed surprised. We kindly invited her to take all necessary measures to solve this problem before future guests arrive. This problem seems to be recent as we saw another comment from this month on TripAdvisor mentioning the same problem. Apart from this, we had a wonderful time in Stewart Island, it is such a special place, the atmosphere there was so charming,all the people we met extremely kind, nature beautiful and the pub absolutely great! Annett was helpful in recommending us activities to do, and places to see. We loved kayaking, walking, sightseeing,...

What a luxury lodge!! This August I had a marvellous holiday in Stewart Island and chose Observation Rock Lodge for my stay: a perfect choice! I could nurture any of my passions, from birdwatching to walking, from looking for kiwis to talking with locals, exploring beaches and forests, and reading a book on the history of this island. Annette, the host, took extremely care of all my needs facilitating my ‘island experience’. Fantastic room, plenty of unique views on landscapes, relaxing living room, breakfast and dinner at the top, and a garden all around with a wide variety of nice and local plants. Rich of details which always make the difference, I decided to stay 2 more nights and to have a whole week here. It was the perfect time to enjoy this experience although it was winter time (fantastic weather too, always lucky…no wind, always sun and some clouds with just minimal rains)....

We loved our stay at observation rock lodge. We were looking to experience total comfort, privacy and a little luxury during our 4-night stay on Stuart Island. Observation Rock Lodge is all that and so much more...

Our suite was a decent size, spotless clean with a modern well equipped ensuite, a private balcony, a private twin spa bath on the balcony and an iconic panoramic Stewart Island view.

Annett is the perfect host, looking after our every need and was patient and super friendly... she is also a talented Chef. Breakfast is included and what a breakfast! One of the best I have experienced at any BnB... but if you are staying here do yourself a favor and stay in for dinner at least once! For me it was one of the highlights of the entire trip.
