Our favorite Cafe on Stewart Island across from the museum next to the bicycle rental kiosk. Eggs Benedict was superb with plenty of salmon to fill me up before our 10 hour hike into the bush. Lasted all day, complimented with a spare carrot and apple in my snack pack. Their extra caffe huts are great because, if our stories about trekking there become too hilarious at least travelers can laugh out loud without being concerned that the entire Cafe of eateries patrons will all hear the uproarious behavior once everyone's stories get too overzealously rambunctious. Especially describing the wild bird songs observed while visiting Ulva Island taxied by the Rakiura water taxi day across the bay trip to visit the Island. The pizza is excellent on Wednesday nights with many to choose from. Highly recommend this charming Cafe with a great attitude and atmosphere for everyone. Would not be surprised if they don't start a musical band for entertainment night. Great foodie stop.

This cosy and warm café is a hidden gem in Stewart Island that I wish I could gatekeep! My friend and I came to this café to seek a hot chocolate in the cold weather, and needless to say, it was an absolutely divine dine-in experience. The homely atmosphere of the café is topped off with a rustic, antique aesthetic that has an appreciation for the arts. There is a marine touch to the place that is so gorgeously well-maintained, particularly through the use of shells to hold serviettes and the woven nets on the ceiling. On top of the cute layout, the accommodating nature of the staff and their excellent services made our time here welcoming. Kotomi in particular was so kind and friendly - I really hope to drop by and see her again before we take our leave! Bonus: Their hot chocolates were served in a double-wall glass, which, for a glassware enthusiast who is thermosensitive, is absolutely perfect. 5/5 - genuinely one of the best cafés I've been to in my life!

Our favorite restaurant on Stewart Island. We had a toastie and coffee for lunch one day and came back for Pizza night the next. Really high-quality, exceptionally delicious, well executed menu. It far exceeded all of our expectations for dining on the island. We also heard that the night after we left Stewart Island was pasta night, which was a disappointment to miss! The cafe owner was very kind as well.

A nice cosy atmospheric place to have a coffee and cake probably. But we came for diner and ordered pumpkin risotto, couscous salade and pulled beef on bread. I guess they suppose to be main courses but the portion size is to small. Not enough beef on (small) sandwich, couscous salade lacking dressing and the halloumi was baked hours in advance and was dried out already. Pumpkin risotto tasted fine but adding fabric pre cut cheese on top did it no good. The presentation of the dishes was underwhelming. Please ask more money and up the portions. Sadly we left hungry and annoyed.

Edit: having a talk about in mine opinion mediocre tasting food wouldn't changed the review. Regarding portion size, maybe inform about portion size so people order two or three dishes per person. You do a dinner night but don't serve main course sizes and because of the price we should know this? Regardless we were fine getting more...
