It was our first time exploring Lofoten and Nusfjord, and we were completely blown away with the whole resort - the area and scenery are breathtaking. On arrival, we were checked in prior to the specified time and told we had been upgraded, which was appreciated. The cabins are sympathetically designed to mix old and new, retaining original features and adding to the understated luxury of the resort - only critique was lack of storage in our room - limited places to hang clothes or store suitcases. Beds were soft and comfortable and bathroom exuded spa-like luxury with underfloor heating, fluffy towels, waterfall shower and high-end toiletries. We loved being able to lay in bed listening to the gentle lap of the waves underneath the cabin, or watch the world go by out of the front window - there was no need for a tv. |Again the theme of old and new colliding is also echoed in the uniquely preserved ex-working cabins across the resort - the boathouse, smithy and smokehouse all retain original charm however are a reminder of the roots of the area and the important role of fishing across the islands, and there are plenty to explore. |Eating was also pleasurable - we ate at Caroline and Oriana for evening meals, and the on site cafe for light lunches - Oriana predominantly serving pizza, Caroline a varied menu of Norwegian/local dishes, and the cafe serving a small selection of sandwiches and traditional fish soup - which was delicious. One small critique was the lack of food options on our arrival day - following a few hours of travelling, we headed to the cafe to be told the only items available were soups (fish and the veggie option) and they had ran out of sandwiches (at 2pm). There are no other food options in resort during the day so this was a disappointing first impression. We also noticed Oriana had one member of staff operating the restaurant the night we visited, and although no issues with wait times or food quality, it did feel a stretch based on the covers and tasks required, and ensuring all guests we catered to. |Breakfast was a traditional Scandinavian affair with plenty of options including delicious Nusfjord cured salmon, and of course, the view from the restaurant at breakfast sublime - we were lucky enough to have a seat next to the panoramic windows on one of our visits. |The spa was a great advantage, and on both occasions, we had full use of both hot tubs and sauna to ourselves. This was a great way to unwind and take in the view across the ocean and nearby mountains. |Unfortunately both tours we attempted to book onto were cancelled due to weather conditions so can’t comment on these, however could have only enhanced our experience more.|Overall our stay in Nusfjord was magical and it’s somewhere we’d love to return to. It’s also evident the site is geared for growth - it would be great to see some collaboration with local craft retailers, pop-up exhibitions and, potentially some intimate acoustic concerts to further enhance the experience, however in the meantime we’re more than happy with our experience and memories made...
Read moreThe short version is, this is an absolutely beautiful place with lovely cottages but expect hordes or tourists with some who have very little respect for privacy, including one individual who took a photo of inside the cabin while we were in it!! Horrifying! I’ll give it a 3 star when balancing the great elements and the bad….
Great- absolutely gorgeous scenery, lovely cottage, good albeit expensive food. Staff is extremely nice and when the tourist hordes leave, it can be so peaceful and relaxing. It’s very pleasant to read and look at the view on a rainy day. Loved the washer/dryer in unit.
Terrible - you’d think the decks are private but appears many of them are not, or at least there was no signage to prevent tourists from coming onto them. So imagine spending 500$/night enjoying your nice scenery of tourist hordes taking pictures nonstop. The absolute worst part is the feeling of your privacy invaded. I had a man point his camera into the window, while I am staying right there, and snap a picture. He knew full well I was there, took a picture of the inside of our cottage, with me (in my pajamas) in the cottage and photo, and smiled at me before I could even react. Extremely upsetting to say the least and really ruined the experience for me.
Doesn’t help we stayed right where tourists come down the stairs from the street, where it is likely worse.
My 2 cents: they either need to clearly state the decks are not private and tourists hordes can be expected at all points of the day, including those who have no respect for privacy and will have no qualms photographing people INSIDE their cottages while they snap pictures of the rorbuer you’re staying in, which I can only assume is considered private property; or, they should post private signs forbidding photos pointed into cabins with rope barriers, as they have at some of...
Read moreWe booked a Rorbu cabin for three nights at Nusfjord Resort. The location is absolutely stunning, and the included breakfast was quite good — however, overall, our experience did not meet our expectations. Breakfast was good in quality, but lacked variety and homemade touches — something that becomes noticeable over a multi-day stay. No one asked whether we would like individually prepared egg dishes, so I assume options like omelets, pancakes, or waffles simply aren’t offered.
The Rorbu cabin was beautiful and tastefully decorated, yet the interior was more focused on style than on practical functionality.
Considering Nusfjord is a historic fishing village and a living museum, I was surprised by the lack of detailed information about the daily lives of the fishermen, the various traditional tools, and how the different buildings and Rorbuer were actually used. Both day visitors and overnight guests receive very little context or insight into this rich heritage.
Much of the experience felt generic and staged, lacking authenticity. I also missed opportunities for hotel guests to actively engage or be entertained through workshops, cooking classes, or other activities. The only excursions offered were a fishing boat trip, a kayak tour, and a RIB boat tour — which felt quite limited given the unique setting.
What disappointed me the most, though, was the absence of genuine warmth and hospitality. No one asked whether we needed help with our luggage upon arrival, and at no point did we feel particularly welcomed or personally looked after. For a place that proudly features in the Amazing Hotels series and carries the Small Luxury Hotels of the World label, I expected a much higher level of personal care, engagement, and a true connection...
