The gentleman who checked us in was very friendly, giving us a great first impression of the hotel. We had requested a corner room with a nice view, and while we did receive the corner room and were happy with it, we didn’t receive the welcome drink included in our booking. I didn’t ask for it, but I do feel staff should proactively notice such things.
Unfortunately, a few issues significantly lowered our overall experience. First, the cleanliness of the shower was disappointing. When I used the showerhead to rinse the floor, a lot of orange residue flushed out of the gaps between the floor tiles, which suggests it hadn’t been properly scrubbed for some time.
Breakfast was underwhelming. There were no pancakes or waffles (and not even for children when we visited), very limited fresh fruit – just melon and pineapple – and the porridge wasn’t available until after 7 AM, even though breakfast opened at 6:30. Nothing really stood out as fresh, exciting, or “wow-worthy.” In fact, I have better breakfasts at home. Given that breakfast isn’t included in the room price and comes at an extra charge, I had higher expectations.
The dining room staff could also be more welcoming; they cleared plates over our table without a word, reached across while we were eating, and generally lacked smiles or greetings. Staff members also collected their own breakfast while the buffet was open for guests, which, while not a major issue, did not look professional.
On the positive side, the lobby, restaurant, and our room were clean and comfortable, with good beds. However, the TV and mirror both had noticeable scratches, and the TV lost picture while keeping the sound. It didn’t matter much to us this time, but it could be an inconvenience for other guests.
Overall, the hotel’s location by the water is beautiful, but the shortcomings in breakfast and shower cleanliness are too significant for me to book here again. For the price, I believe I can get better...
Read moreThis being a 4 star rated hotel on google is crazy. I would give this a 2 star rating on a good day. The wifi doesn't work well at all if you're too high away from the lobby. The towels in the room came dirty with a yellow splotch on it. The front desk doesn't care that you paid for VIP and will not give you your drink voucher if you don't mention it when you check in (they never will mention it unless you say something). The shower has a slight yogurt smell to it and the water pressure is almost non existent. There is no laundromat, you have to give them your clothes in the morning and wait for it to get back to you when they come clean your room. We had to leave the key in the room to keep the power going for my mom's medicine in the fridge and they just came and took it out to turn off the power when we left the room. A lot of the doors going to the outside are locked so if there's any kind of emergency you have to know the route out ahead of time.
EDIT: I called to ask about the wifi for the second time cause the first time they told me to just disconnect and reconnect and it's STILL not working properly. When I called in the second time they told me they can give me a number to call to get it fixed. Why do I need to call to fix THEIR wifi?? The lady on the phone working (Jul 06 at 21:22) was extremely rude to me about it. They also only gave us one robe for 3 people in the room and the single robe they gave us doesn't have any string to hold it closed! When I asked about that she said "Well we don't give robes to every room" and I said "but the robe you DID give me can't even be used cause it's missing pieces" and she just dismissed me and told me to get dressed to go down to the front desk to get the number for the wifi. The customer service here is worse than a lot of 2 star hotels...
Read moreRadisson Blu Nydalen is located in a modern business district outside Oslo's center. The metro (T-Bane) stops right next to the hotel and takes you to main station in less than 10 minutes - very convenient.
Parking our car however was a desaster, as the entrance to the garage was blocked by construction work and the hotel did not care to put up any signs towards a diversion. I tried calling the hotel to inquire about alternative parking several times but nobody would pick up - I do not understand how this could happen in a large hotel during the middle of the day.
We ended up parking in a nearby public garage, paying a fortune and walking back with our luggage.
Check-in took almost 20 minutes as the only person at the front desk was having lunch; probably also the reason why nobody would take my phone calls. When the receptionist finally returned to duty, he brought a plate of waffles and coffee for himself while a lot of people were waiting in a queue; not very professional.
The room was OK and met the standard you would expect from a four star hotel. We had ordered an extra bed for my 15 year old brother which was a bad joke though; to put it politely. The extra bed's slatted frame was missing several wooden parts, so the mattress crashed right to the floor - see picture attached. I consider it outrageous to put obviously broken furniture into a guests room; whoever prepared the room must have noticed the problems. After calling "One Touch Service", the bed was promptly replaced but the new one was not very comfortable either.
Breakfast buffet was good and check-out went smoother than check-in.
Overall a high standard building in a convient location but the lack of attention to details and the terrible service cast a bad light onto the...
