Hotel El Mesón de Ayacucho — Hotel in Ayacucho

We were unlucky to stay at the same time with a noisy group who played music and sung until midnight. One of the owner family members who by chance met us in the street and had talked us into staying had "forgotten" to inform us about that circumstance. The breakfast was one of the poorest we have had during our three months travelling in South America. One cup of tea or "coffee" (an icy cold concentrate to be mixed into lue warm water), two rolls prespread with a touch of margarine and "jam", plus a glass of juice. On Sunday mornings there is NO breakfast. We were told this is due to lack of staff! We were refunded the breakfast though on our request. However, one guy at the reception kind of complained that we already had a very cheap deal and seemed to be unhappy with the lady's decision to refund. Also strange, when we asked for toilet paper we were kind of interrogated if it was really finished and which room number it was for. |The rooms are large, and equipped with super sized TV screens. Mattresses are just ok. Showers are with good water pressure and really hot (rare to find in Peru). Wifi is sufficient. The 84 year old founder and one of his daughters are extremely nice. This place is one and a half blocks from Plaza de Armas, three minutes walking. The place is quite, very quiet; no car fumes or noisy cars,the only noise I could hear it was a roster in the morning. For people like as who looks for adventures, places to know and eat I would recommend El Meson also for the good breakfast include and the people who work for make you happy. The rooms are large enough with most of the necessities you could ask for; leaving after breakfast and coming back at night was pretty much are routine in Huamanga during the first week in July...

Everything about this hostel is friendly and reasonable. These are the two things I really value in a place. I especially loved the cleanliness. I didn’t feel like there were any restrictions set up for the sake of extortion (something I run into a lot in Peru). And everyone was just so nice and helpful.
