I booked a 3 person apartment for a 6 day stay through Airbnb for myself and 2 friends, and despite the luxurious nature of the complex we were left highly disappointed.
When paying large amounts of money for luxury accommodation, I do not expect to have to tip-toe around a bunch of senseless rules. This complex had some of the most ridiculous rules I've ever seen in the luxury hotel industry, as described in a contract that I was not made aware of by my Airbnb booking. In fact, upon further inspection, that contract is not even present when booking directly through this company's website (the terms & policies only describe check in and check out times). That meant that we did not have the opportunity to back out and find another place once we were given the contract to sign.
Most of the rules were based on having to book any amenity for a 1 hour time slot 24 hours before the intended usage. They included: ping pong equipment billiards equipment indoor pool usage sauna usage gym usage
We additionally had to notify the staff of any potential visitors and their IDs 24 hours ahead of time, with visiting hours ending at 10pm. Also, upon checkout we were not permitted to use the outdoor pool while waiting for our flight despite using communal hotel facilities on checkout day being standard industry practice. Lastly, the contract listed some maintenance expenses with completely disproportional prices in the event that stains were left. For example, we would be charged $20 USD if stains would be found in the bed sheets.
In light of COVID-19, I understand the need for restrictive policies for amenities that are cramped in nature, like saunas, but having to reserve amenities that are spacious and allow for mask wearing is completely unnecessary. These rules kept us on edge and disincentivized us from using any of the amenities.
I attached pictures of the contract I had to sign for proof.
Overall, the apartment was large and had comfortable furniture, although a lot of the kitchen cabinet doors were broken and we were not provided soap or shampoo. However, the imposition of all of these overly restrictive rules made for an uncomfortable stay and I will likely not be returning for another stay unless serious changes are made. While the COVID-19 pandemic continues, we must take additional precautions but ones that make logical sense and do not create needless complications...
