I had a wonderful stay at La Ola Azul and would absolutely come back a thousand times over! The location is excellent – just one or two minutes’ walk to the beach and about 15–20 minutes on foot to the Point Break surf spot. Everything in town, including restaurants and small shops, can easily be reached within 5–10 minutes. There’s even a very good restaurant right next door.
The place itself is quiet and relaxed – I slept really well. Of course, you can’t avoid the occasional dog barking or a car horn, but overall it was peaceful. My bed was super comfortable, the room had enough space, and the little balcony with a clothesline was perfect for drying surf gear or beachwear.
The bathroom was great as well: hot water every time, though the water pressure was a bit low, which only meant I had to shower a few minutes longer. Honestly, it didn’t affect my experience at all.
The staff were absolutely amazing – extremely kind, supportive, and genuinely helpful. They went out of their way to assist me, especially when I was searching for surf equipment and a wetsuit in XXL size. Breakfast was tasty, traditional Peruvian style, and more than enough to start the day.
Overall, La Ola Azul is a fantastic place with excellent value for money. I felt completely comfortable, well taken care of, and truly enjoyed my stay. I can recommend it to anyone visiting Chicama, and I’ll definitely come...
Read moreEasily the best value hotel in Chicama if not all of Peru! Everything is kept so clean, the beds are very comfortable, a nice hot shower and its well set up for surfers. It's also very secure. A lot of the rooms have a balcony so there is a nice place to relax and you can see the beach.
Carla who runs the hotel is extremely helpful and kind. I felt like she went out of her way to make sure we were comfortable.
There is a restaurant 2 doors down that serves the best and cheapest food we could find in town. Wish we ate there from the first night. There is also a great cafe that surves brownies on...
Read moreGreat spot. It’s hard to find restaurants but this place has one right below. The host is super nice and has a surfboard rack for use. Wash the sand from your board out front and see the waves from your room if you have the front. Not beachfront but just as great. Downside is that you will get woken up by locals selling stuff in the morning on the streets. Horns and honks all morning. Cute little place and quiet when...
