My wife and I recently stayed 2 nights at the Saint Germain in Trujillo. We picked it because it was recommended in Lonely Planet and described as a "hotel de charme". It turned out to be anything but a charming hotel. We had the matrimonial room which was spacious but overlooked the street where all the taxis seemed to collect before picking up customers on Plaza de Armas. At one point I counted 28 taxis lined up on the street below our bedroom window. And anyone who has been to Trujillo will tell you that drivers there blow their horns as a way of life! Only around midnight did the horns subside and we were able to sleep.||||To make matters worse, the day attendant at the counter was sullen, unable to smile and unable to say "bienvenido"! Read moreAfter spending a night at another hotel where we got no sleep and had no hot water, we checked into this hotel and it was a huge relief. It isn't anything special but it was clean, quiet (we had a room at the back with an internal window), everything worked as it should and there was even a TV. Breakfast was better than average for this level of hotel and it was handy that the supermarket was just down the street. We were quite tired and just wanted to stay in and when I went and bought some pot noodles the man in the hotel was really helpful in heating up some water for me and getting me cutlery so we could just eat in our room. Read moreThis is a clean, simple inexpensive hotel located in the buzzing downtown core of Trujillo.||Room was a bit dark as i stayed in inside room as i did not want to hear the blaring horns of taxi drivers. i had not much of a view but room was clean and washroom was decent with hot water and clean towels.
