I stayed two nights at Rita's and loved it so much. Lovely Germaine and Mister Romeo are so welcoming and always have a warm smile and laughter for you. The rooms are basic and very clean, but you don't spend time in your room since the restaurant area with it's stunning view on the Batad rice terraces and mountains is more than you wish for. I also loved how flexible Germaine was. When I couldn't finished my food, she would safe it for later. I also had an amazing guide for two days with Elisa, who is Germaine's neighbour. Sometimes we talked so much that we spend more time for the hikes than calculated. But if you want a guide that delivers all the insider information about the village and their people, the history of the region, the rice fields, rice making and so much more, ask Germaine for Elisa. Don't waive a guide. For sure you can also hike alone. Not just you will miss so much insider information and awesome company during your hike, it's also good to support the locals since some of them depend on this income. If I ever come back to Batad, I'll choose...

Read moreGermaine was a fantastic host! We actually got there pretty late in evening. Traveler tip - bring a good flashlight or better yet headlamp. To get to Rita's, you must park at the end of the road and then walk about 15-20mins on a pleasant trail. Sleeping over night at Rita's and waking to an incredible view of the rice terraces was definitely a memorable. Have a little breakfast and coffee then go on a once in a lifetime hike up, down, and traversing through the rice terraces! Guides are available and I think a must to enjoy it the right way. They're pretty cheap and you won't get lost or end up taking the wrong routes. Warning hiking can get sporty through the terraces where it can get as narrow as a foots width on a beam like surface. Once again Def once...
