A Disappointing Breakfast that Failed on Every Level.

What claims to be an upscale hotel restaurant managed to underwhelm in every possible way during our recent breakfast visit. The menu promised international breakfast options, yet the American breakfast was unavailable - apparently due to a lack of bacon. This should have been our first warning.

The coffee was particularly offensive - what was advertised as a latte appeared to be nothing more than instant 3-in-1 coffee topped with a sad dollop of frothy milk, resulting in an unappetizing grey concoction that bore no resemblance to proper coffee. The term 'insipid' barely does justice to its complete lack of flavor.

The kitchen's interpretation of classic breakfast dishes was equally poor. Scrambled eggs arrived overcooked, while the Shakshouka - a dish that specifically calls for poached eggs - came with basic fried eggs instead. This either demonstrates a complete lack of culinary knowledge or a disregard for proper preparation.

To cap off this underwhelming experience, we discovered at payment time that they don't accept cards - a basic service one would expect from a hotel of this caliber. No signage indicated this limitation, leaving guests potentially stranded without cash.

For a hotel positioning itself as a quality establishment, the breakfast service falls embarrassingly short. Save yourself the disappointment and eat elsewhere.

Rating: 1/5 - Substandard food, poor service, misleading menu descriptions. If this extends to the rooms then I would not hesitate to recommend you...

Extremely Disappointing Stay at Hotel Palacio, Puerto Princesa

I cannot express enough how terrible our stay at Hotel Palacio in Puerto Princesa was. We were forced to leave three days earlier than planned due to the absolutely horrendous service and the shocking experience we had during our first night.

On the first night, a rat appeared in our room in the middle of the night. To make matters worse, it climbed onto one of my friend's face while he was sleeping. We were horrified and immediately called for assistance to remove the rat. However, the employee who responded laughed at us and did absolutely nothing. We were left to deal with the rat ourselves, which only added to our distress. It was an incredibly unsettling and unsafe experience.

The room itself was filthy, with dirty sheets and an overall lack of cleanliness. The food was a complete disaster—poorly prepared and tasteless. The waiting times for meals were unacceptable, and it felt like we were being completely neglected by the staff. The service throughout our stay was beyond disappointing, with rude and unhelpful staff members who seemed uninterested in doing their job. After this appalling experience, we decided to cut our stay short and leave the hotel three days earlier than planned. The lack of cleanliness, terrible food, and total disregard for our safety and comfort made it clear that this was not the place for us.

I would highly recommend avoiding this hotel. It was one of the worst hotel experiences I’ve ever had, and I will not...

The bad reviews of this place must have been unlucky!! Yes the location is very rural and surrounded by wildlife, but personally we enjoyed that it is an escape from the city. The views were lovely, it was quiet and peaceful and each night we watched the flying foxes return to roost, it was an amazing experience.

We stayed for two nights and had the underground river tour booked for the full day so only spent the evenings there.

The staff were very welcoming and friendly - reception helped us book our transfer to Port Barton. The restaurant is a third party but the food was delicious (have the Filipino menu not the French menu). We were even offered breakfast early as we had to leave for our tour!

The negatives were perhaps the location as nothing is really walking distance. We also didn’t use the pool as it looked a little murky, they should install a pump and perhaps could spruce up the outdoor lounge area. The WiFi also didn’t reach our room so perhaps that could be improved - it worked well in the communal areas.

The rooms were spacious and clean - I think it depends on your previous hotel experiences in the Philippines as we welcomed the space , the air con and the warm running water! Perhaps avoid if you are wary of wildlife in your room, we had lots of lizards that are totally harmless (understand that you are in the countryside!)

Thanks for...

The room was spacious and nice. The amenities were decent as well. The restaurant/café looked great, and there was a swimming pool with a poolside area where you could hang out and relax. There’s also a billiard table in the lobby for those who enjoy that kind of entertainment. There were a few downsides, like a power outage during our stay. But it was understandable since it was beyond their control. I believe they had a generator to keep the lights on, though the air conditioning didn’t work during the outage. Also, there was no TV in the room. Overall, the place was really nice and definitely worth the price.
