On previous nights, we would pass by and see this place packed. We were curious about it so we decided to try it out.
When we got here, we had the place all to ourselves so it was nice and quiet. It didn't last long, though, as more people came as the night rambled on. They didn't ruin the experience, though, and we still had quite a pleasant evening.
First -- the ambience. There was a choice of open-air or air-conditioned seating. Since it was a very humid night and there weren't other people around (yet), we chose to be seated indoors. The interiors were pleasant enough, with good lighting, cool A/C, bright floral decor, and minimal table arrangements. The seats could've been more comfortable, though not a deal-breaker.
Service was friendly enough, but the food took a while considering we were the only customers there at the time. Still, the waiter was very warm and friendly, and he did get all our orders correctly and made some good suggestions.
Next -- the burger. When the smash burger I ordered arrived, honestly, I was underwhelmed. At php200+, I was expecting a bit more. It looked tiny! But once I took a bite, I knew that looks can be deceiving. It tasted great! Reminded me a bit of Tropical Hut or Dayrit's burgers. And they were double patties so it was quite substantial. All in all, a good honest-to-goodness burger with fries on the side and yes, a dill pickle! Right on!
Because I had thought (wrongly) that I wouldn't be satiated with my burger order, I decided to order tapsilog, as well. It had onion rings in it, kinda like a dried bistek tagalog. The tapa was just about right, almost on the verge of being too tough. Eggs were over-easy and the fried rice had ample garlic bits. Might be good enough to land within the list of top 5 tapsilog in the City.
E. didn't like her chili con carne, though. It was a bit bland compared to what she normally gets from Artisans but then again, that is a high bar. Nothing a bit of pepper and tabasco couldn't fix.
N. was especially disappointed with the waffles that came the American Breakfast (choice of pancakes or waffles, sausages or bacon, fried or scrambled egg). Good waffles are difficult to come by here in Puerto. To be fair, he is sort of a Belgian waffle afficionado and as such, is difficult to please when it comes to waffles.
Saving grace was the Beef Stroganoff. The meat was chunky and tasty, the mashed potato was just right, and the mushroom sauce was thick and savory. All in all, a good dinner place if you don't want to go all the way to the center of town. And do try the...
Read moreWe were a family for dinner there. The restaurant was empty after 20 minutes a couple came also for dinner. After a long wait for the food 3 of 4 recieve the food. A short moment later the couple became the food but our son still had to wait. We were already finished with dining and the couple already paid and were gonna, our son received the food, I think minimum 1 hour after order. The food was good but to a long wait and service craft give no information about and what I asked her, came only...
