I have never had Korean Food before today. I was craving soup broth and googled what was around me and saw that Shabu-Shabu had some good reviews.
We ordered a none spicy beef and tofu soup. The presentation was impeccable. I mentioned to our server/owner that I don’t know how to start eating this and she was so kind. She turned on the table burner and explained it will boil and cook out the shaved beef. She explained all the condiments and how to eat it. The kimchi was excellent. The beef broth with all the items in it was impressive and way more than my wife and I could eat in one sitting.
Another item to note. Typically in the Philippines a server will disappear after your meal is served. They won’t come back to see if your rinks to refilling or even check to see how things are. I had gotten used to this poor service but that at this place. The owner was there within 10 minutes of eating to ask how things were. Other restaurant servers could learn a thing or 2 here on how a proper restaurant is operated and how serving customers is a servers priority.
If you have never had Korean food, this is definitely the place to start your journey. I can’t wait to return and try something else.
Less than 700 pesos with a delicious ginger honey tea. We took more than half home with us to...
Read moreFor her graduation celebration, E. wanted samgyupsal. Since she couldn't come with us when we ate here last week, we decided to go to O Shabu Shabu again. We've been here many times in the past and it is one of the tried and tested restaurants we always go to whenever we get the craving to eat out. But this would only be our third or fourth visit since they changed management last year during the pandemic. The place is pretty much the same but it seems cleaner and brighter. Gone are the menu items on the wall -- they now have a nice menu with the the usual hotpot and samgyupsal choices and some new ala carte items. We tried the new Shabu Shabu (special set) and it did not disappoint. The broth was light and tasted clean and smooth, not the usual overly-flavored soup base. The ingredients (prawns, mussels, veggies, beef) were fresh and generous, although not unlimited. The kids ordered the unlimited pork (beef is hard to come by in Puerto Princesa) sangyupsal but they were quite full so they didn't get to ask for refills. On both recent visits, they gave us new menu items to try -- the sashimi salad and seared sashimi the previous week and pork ribs this week. All were excellent, courtesy of their new Korean chef. Will definitely order more on...
Read moreLet me just start this of by saying; the owner(s) and staff that work here are absolute delights.
Decor is very “island-y” and local, that is to say it’s the type of establishment you’d see right next to the beach, and that’s a good thing. Nothing is pretentious about the place. Now the food. Oh heavens. The food. Our banchan was comprised of a Korean cucumber salad, Kimchee, anchovies (these were amazing), and a sort of hybrid apple, carrot, and potato salad. Delicious. My group and I actually finished our banchan before the main course rolled in. Speaking of main course, we had 2 orders of the combo shrimp, beef, mussels, tofu, crab, and glass noodles - large size. When I tell you that pot is massive, I mean it. You could EASILY feed a party of 5. We ordered 2, we were also a party of 4. Do the math 🤣. Regardless, it was delicious. The owners were also incredibly kind and brought out a complimentary order of seafood pancake, and my goodness was that INCREDIBLE. We will be coming back for the pancakes alone.
We were told that they get busier at night, so we’ll come again around then. O Shabu Shabu is also fairly close to the airport, so if you’re a tourist and you’re in the mood for some Korean food/general seafood, make the trip here,...
