Visiting the Island of Mindanao of the Philippines has not been recommended due to the criminal acts of the Peoples New Army in the Islamic Southern Regions of murder and kidnapping of foreigners. In fact the south west is still a no go area, but in the North central and. Eastern areas the people are friendly and the scenery some of the best to be seen in the Philippines. This is almost exclusively Catholic and well worth visiting if wanting to get away from the overcrowded filth of big cities and see real rural beauty.||However finding a good place to stay is still challenging and if in Valencia the largest hotel is the Valencia. I stayed there one night before moving out to a private house in Lilagan village. The cost of rooms ranged from 975pesos for a standard to 1850 for a presidential. I chose an executive room at 1525 pesos per night. The counter assistant advised I could check in after 2 pm once the room had been cleaned. And there was a 15% discount. Sounds great so We waited the 4 hours having lunch there. The local dishes were really good but forget about ordering a Club Sandwich or French Fries. They were a miserable excuse for the real thing with the sandwich small dry sweet white bread triangle stuck together in 3's with tuna paste and very thin slices of highly processed luncheon meat. The chips were not cooked properly and soft tasteless. Anyway time to check in and the 15% discount has suddenly disappeared for no reason except that I am a foreigner I suggest. I take the room which is huge in size but very poorly lit, insufficient to read even with every light on. There is no hot water and the plumbing is leaking a continuos flow of water into the bath which the noise of made getting to sleep difficult. We asked them to turn the water off to shut the noise off. There was no concern about the wasted water. The walls were stained and dull from the lack of cleaning. The hall way was cluttered with meal plate infested with ants cleaning up the scraps. The common areas had dirty floors and walls with every light fitting in the ceiling surrounded by black dirt. The swimming pool had not been cleaned in ages with visible thick Algae growing on the pool walls and floor. The water had a green tinge and I observed insect life swimming under the water feeding on the algae. The waiter for lunch was slow and unmotivated. Payment was hassled for in crash and I had to insist of having lunch...
Read moreWe arrived in Valencia almost at midnight and had to have a place to stay, so we were dropped off at the Valencia hotel. they had a room available, and we paid 900 pesos and went up to the room. ||||It was quiet, the room was large, the double bed was king size and it was comfortable. We had enough blankets to keep us warm, as the air con was really good, quiet and effective. ||||The bathroom was also large, the water ran well, toilets flushed and I was very happy with the room rate and we slept for the night. ||||However when we woke up the next morning and went to breakfast, things began to fall apart rapidly !!! the service at breakfast was slow, we had to move tables to the window to enjoy the veiw of the traffic rather than sit in the middle of the room. The Complimentary breakfast was two thin slices of luncheon meat and some cold rice. The coffee was cold and .... that was it, !!!||||We then started to have a look at the hotel and found that it was really in need of some renovation, sad really because this is a big property and could be made into a beautiful place once again, if only people would take more care. There was rubbish burning in the driveway, and the road works did not help with the general presentation. These have since been finished but i chose to stay in Malaybalay this next trip so will I be back.... Not unless I can find somewhere better, but in saying that..... Its has so much potential.... I would love to have a go at managing this place and see what i could do...
Read moreI stayed at the GV Hotel in Valencia City for 10 days while I was visiting my girlfriend and while my stay was comfortable and, most importantly affordable, I would have appreciated better WiFi service.
The WiFi in the hotel was spotty at best and you had to reconnect every 15 minutes or so, so that definitely made it a hassle especially when Videoing my family here in the States. They should really set up an official WiFi for the hotel also due to the vulnerability of having an open network, you become victim to many hackers and various things like that.
Other than that, it was a nice stay. The crew there were very friendly and helpful in every way. I...
