Hortas do Rio — Hotel in Aljezur

What a great place!!! Accommodation: A boho-style room with high-quality furnishing and much love to details. Every room has direct access to its own terrace with sun in the morning. You can walk some steps down to the lawn and directly to the pool. Spotless clean and bed sheets and mattresses are just like in a top star hotel. This place is owner-managed which means the owner, Felipe, puts his everything into making the stay a perfect experience. As the place is brand new, there is kind of a highly motivating start-up atmosphere among the staff and Felipe. It will never be crowed because there are 7 rooms which makes a maximum of 14 people in this place. So there is this nice private and exclusive feeling about it. Not like in a big hotel Breakfast: When you sit in the sun on the terrace and take the first sip of coffee you know that slow living is not just branding here but a concept which works. Breakfast in the sun, what else do you need. The staff is very attentive, so if there is anything you want more/less/different – just let them know and it will be provided for. We recently stayed at Hortas do Rio.

Nicola, the guy who welcomed us, and the girls that served us breakfast every day were very nice.

Unfortunately we were disappointed because our room, number 7, had a "bathroom" that did not correspond to the pictures on the website. There was a significant lack of privacy, since the toilet and the shower didn't include a door but just a curtain. We checked some of the rooms and they didn't have the same issue. We pointed it out to the owner once we left because during our stay we never ran into him. Unfortunately, rather than getting a discount for our stay, we were told we will get it on our next stay at Hortas do Rio, which is ridiculous, since we live in Italy and it is not so easy for us to go back to Portugal. We could at least have been informed in advance...

We loved everything about our stay and especially the host Filipe! The appartments and whole surrounding are beautiful, and you have a fantastic breakfast outside which is served by the Filipe & Hugo and made it easy to get up in the morning. A beautiful beach to surf or relax can be reached by foot, or you can take the bikes that are available for free and take them for a ride. If you are looking for some hikes, you can start that directly from the location or you drive to Monchique, Aljezur or Sagres. We especially loved sitting in the open living room in the evening, taking a few drinks (e.g. Mojito with fresh mint from the garden) and having good or just funny discussions with Filipe and other visitors!
