Hostel do Mar — Hotel in Aljezur

Can only say good things about our visit to Carrapateira, and our stay at Hostel Do Mar. The owners, Pedro and his wife and young son live in the same building in their own apartment. The Hostel is designed to accommodate groups couples and singles efficiently, and warmly. There is a great woodstove in the common living room/ kitchen with guitars to play, stereo, and tv/DVD's. |The comfortable mattresses and cozy quilts made our nighttime rests just like home. |The location is ideal for access to the great little village for snacks, meals, and groceries with a fresh produce market. That, and it's right on the Rota Vicentina for a spectacular walk out along the beautiful scenic Fishermans Trail along the coast with sandy beaches and flora and fauna galore. |We hope to be back soon to enjoy the hospitality of this hostel, one of the most enjoyable hostels we've visited....

I did not stay here due to the terrible reception I had from the Colombian guy that works here. He refused to call his boss when I had a query about the room being offered. He was very rude and passive aggressive. Not a nice experience, especially since everyone else in Portugal up until that point had been so friendly and hospitable.

The room I was offered for myself for 55 euros was tiny and just about contained one bunk bed. The small shared bathroom was at the other end of a narrow corridor.

I ended up finding a spacious double en-suite room, much closer to the beach for 10 euros less at Bamboo b&b.

Each private has views of the dunes from the private terrace out back and in my opinion, in terms of value for money, this is a far superior and...

Such a lovely hostel. Staff were friendly and really cared for the hostel and customers. The hostel is in a great location right next to some shops and cafes. The hostel is nicely designed and has a great kitchen/dining area. It's relaxed but very clean and has a lovely balcony to relax and read on. Dorm rooms are a good size and include lockers under the bed. The bathrooms are really nice also, well designed and clean. You can sense how much thought has gone into design and how much the owners understand what various users might be looking for in a hostel.
