This was a very nice 2-star hotel. With that in mind, you absolutely get what is advertised. It’s affordable, very clean and the staff is friendly and attentive. There’s always someone at the desk to help.
I have found that the culture here is one where people respect privacy and don’t always assume you want interaction. This may come off as “cold” from those of us from places like the USA where we smile at strangers. But, if you say hello and give a signal that you’re open to chatty, you’ll immediately be well received! They love to welcome you and assist, as soon as they know you’re open to it. So say hello!
The rooms are small, so if that’s a problem, consider a suite. You’ll have more space to spread out. There’s all the necessities and the rooms are well maintained. They have AC. I didn’t love that my room had two twin beds put together to make a “king” bed but I’ve seen this in many of my travels.
Breakfast is included but it’s nothing special and it’s identical every single day. Good if you just want a quick fruit or toast. The eggs were not really edible. But hey, it’s free. Right outside the door are a dozen cafes within walking distance.
The shower was great! And mine at least was accessible which is a big plus for anyone with mobility needs.
The location itself was ideal! Especially if you have no car. There’s a ton to do downtown and you can walk to a beach area as well as go visit Monte Brasil. That one is probably best by car so you can get to the top. There’s food and shops all over the place. And it’s the capital, so a lot of history there. Check out the Garden down the road.
Overall, this was a great...
Read moreThis residence has a great location, nice balcony with room to step out for air. Twin beds were comfortable. Rooms clean. The lobby and dining room were large and clean. Breakfast was basic continental. There is an elevator for accessibility. Staff was very friendly and helpful.||Couple of negatives, the wifi did not work in the room, people collected in the lobby. They told us it was temporary but I have read that in other reviews at other times. There was no hair dryer. ||Be warned that there is no air conditioning. They supplied a small table top fan, and circulation was ok in September, but hard to imagine what it would be like in the hotter summer. With the balcony doors open the traffic was loud. ||All that said you get what you pay for. For location and a good clean basic room in a nice building this is a...
Read moreClean and tidy rooms. Air Con works a dream and shower was good (no dribble hot water nonsense).
So improvements on the room...not a lot. The toilet location in the bathroom was lousy and the shower water was not contained by the partition so had to put a towel on the floor to avoid flooding the bathroom.
Service. Well the breakfast is basic and the same every day and is just boring. The oranges juice is a special disappointment. The concierge/receptionist on the late shift ... man, we never saw him smile ... he seemed so dissatisfied with his job. He did serve, but one felt awkward asking for anything...he should really get out of a customer serving role ...clearly not his happy place.
Location.. bit of a walk down into town but really the location was absolutely fine. 10 mins to the...
