We came to Beira Mar for many years, always to have lunch on the terrace. We remember an impeccable and attentive service. Our experience yesterday was a harsh deception. Coming in, we were not greeted as usual. Waiters and waitresses were not dressed the way they were. We recognised two waiters only, the rest of the staff were new to us. Only very reluctantly we were seated on the terrace. To try to get the attention of a waiter to place our order was a thing of impossibility. The waiters chatted among each other and forgot about the guests. We asked for oil and vinegar for the salad - only vinegar came. When asking for the wine list, we had to wait about 5 minutes. When ordering the wine, an island wine, we were told that our choice was not available. We accepted the suggested alternative. However, on the check, our first choice of wine, at double the price of the alternate wine was registered. If it was clumsyness or bad faith, I will not decide. Our good memories of the place is in any case tainted. When I confronted the one waiter I recognised from many stays - he also remembered me - I felt his embarassement. But his apology was so softly spoken, practically not to be heard. I doubt that we will go vack to Beira Mar -...
Read moreHotel Beira Mar is situated in the best location of Angra do Heroísmo directly facing to the sea. You can easily walk to Monte Brasil or explore the beautiful streets of Angra from there. The hotel staff were always receptive to any request and gave me a wonderful room on the 3rd floor with an incredible view. It was so peaceful to hear the waves rolling onto the shore. The hotel and room were spotlessly clean and had everything to make for a relaxing stay.||The complimentary buffet breakfast was more than adequate, and the fresh homemade cakes were so delicious! Restaurant Beira Mar which is located in the hotel served the most fresh and reasonably priced seafood dishes. You can choose to sit inside or on the terrace facing the sea. My meal was so good that I returned the next evening and ordered exactly the same thing. One of the best meals ever!||I stayed five nights and would definitely choose Hotel Beira Mar again on any return...
Read moreGreat location overlooking harbor. High quality Azorean dishes. Reasonable pricing and smart servers. Ask for their recommendations.
Starters. Ask for their house speciality soup. Ditto local wines.
Mains: we shared Lombo Cherne, fresh in August, frozen other times. English: Wreckfish. A solid, almost boneless meat with the texture of a perfect pork chop. The fish for people who don't like fish.
Salad: Tomato was uninspired and oddly used imported fruit at the peak of their season [August].
Dessert. Orange Crepe and the Ice cream with chocolate were OK. Maybe skip dessert and walk a few blocks up to the cafe in the square outside the Duke of Terceira Garden (it's built around a huge tree ). Get one of their gelato and a coffee. Stroll through the garden after. Cheaper and more exotic.
All-in-all, you don't be disappointed with...
