Pousada de Juventude da Terceira — Hotel in Angra do Heroísmo

I was the only one here but that is expected in Feb. Despite that, I got excellent service from Bruce and Nuno. Breakfast lady served a good breakfast that hit the spot. Clean and comfortable with all the amenities I needed.||I am sharing a fishy tale.. One morning, I went for an early morning walk to take sunrise pictures and as I sat on the dock in front of the hostel, a fish jumped out of the water but I didn't notice where it landed, expecting it to end back in the ocean. I heard all these birds squawking so I went to investigate and found a 3 pound Sea Bass (Robalo) had landed on the dock 50' from me, stunned. Took it to the hostel, held by its tail and avoided the upset birds. I cleaned it, left some for Bruce and Nuno and had 6 portions for my dinner. Very tasty fish. The location of the hostel is fine, with beautiful views over the ocean. There's a good restaurant nearby and you can walk over to Angra in about an hour, which is a really nice walk. The staff is amazing, incredibly nice, and always willing to help. The atmosphere is pretty lonely though. Not a lot of guests, I was in a room by myself, hardly ever seeing other travellers. Pretty basic hostel, with simple, but fine beds and decent showers. Location is good, uninterrupted views of the ocean and the staff were very helpful, even the lady who did breakfast and didn't speak any English, but the good ends there! This is a 72 bed hostel and I was the only guest on the first night! There were insects, some sort of centipede, all over the place, damp patches on the walls, stained bedding, a kitchen that was seriously lacking in equipment, the lights in my room didn't work so I moved after the first night and water all over the corridor upstairs.
