Mixed Experience at a Beautiful Vineyard

We stayed at this charming vineyard hotel, and while the setting and wine were fantastic, our overall experience was let down by poor service in certain areas.

First, the positives:

The Location: Stunning surroundings with gorgeous vineyard views, perfect for a relaxing getaway.

The Wine: Truly exceptional! Every glass felt like a celebration of the vineyard’s craft.

The Restaurant: Main courses were delicious.

Now for the negatives:

The Restaurant: Starters and desserts were disappointing. We dined almost alone as there were very few other guests. We prefer a livelier atmosphere and suggest the hotel consider set dining times to bring guests together. Service was polite but staff was not engaged. The staff didn’t explain the food or wine which was disappointing for a vineyard hotel. There was little interaction overall, making us feel somewhat overlooked as guests. It would have been nice to see more effort to create a welcoming and informative dining experience.

Breakfast: The selection could have been of higher quality and better options for health-conscious guests.

Massage: Our massage experience was extremely disappointing. The massages were held in an outdoor tent at evening in winter with no heating. We were freezing throughout the session and left feeling worse than when we arrived. What made it worse was the staff’s lack of understanding or empathy. The hotel took no responsibility, and we were told to address it with the masseurs directly, even though we booked through the hotel.

Additionally, we had to pay for the massage in cash, and there was no ATM at the property. This was not communicated beforehand, leading to unnecessary inconvenience.

A simple apology or acknowledgment of the poor setup would have made a huge difference, but none was offered.

In summary, while the vineyard and wine lived up to expectations, the disappointing massage and lack of customer care left us feeling undervalued as guests. We hope the hotel addresses these issues because this place has...

Truly excels in offering a romantic escape, magnificently set against dramatic sea views and its cherished, evolving vineyard.

This isn't just any vineyard; it's a labor of love that has been organically cultivated for many years, a testament to its commitment to sustainable practices. With our appreciation for viticulture, we were particularly delighted by the immersive wine experience, including a Madeira wine tastings that showcase the island’s unique terroir. Furthermore, the vineyard is actively expanding its legacy, with new plantings of the celebrated Malvasia grape, promising even richer offerings in the future.

The hotel itself, an exquisite old Madeiran-style house, beautifully marries its historical charm with a touch of refined English sophistication. This creates an atmosphere that is both grand and intimately welcoming. Complementing this elegance is a profoundly relaxing vibe, enhanced by a focus on yoga and health, making it an ideal sanctuary for rejuvenation.

Culinary delights await in the restaurant, where the food is consistently praised for its quality and variety, notably featuring many excellent vegetarian options. This thoughtful approach to dining, combined with the breathtaking scenery and the enriching wine and wellness offerings, solidifies Quinta das Vinhas as a perfect destination for enjoyment and...

We've stayd 3 nights and stayed at the Casa Rosa villa. From outside it looks like a very old structure but when we entered it felt cosy and nice. BUT...After few hours we discovered few faults. 1)the bedroom wall next to our bed was pilling and with mold. 2) The bathroom was not maintained well, water in the shower and sink were not drained, hot water stream was very weak and it took the hot water long time to arrive, also toilet flush button needed another push to stop water flow. 3) we had many ants all over the living room and kitchen,we need to throw some of our food. 4) bedroom air-condition had mold smell. 5) employees were always working next to our room since it's part of the winery and it felt a bit uncomfortable. We Left the room early morning, after arranging our luggage in the car we head ourselves to the airport ,while taking our stuff out of the rented car we've noticed we forgot in our Unit ( Casa Rosa) a paper bag with some presents we bought to our kids,so we called the place, they went there and told us they couldn't find it in the kitchen where it was ,my wife left it there for sure. So I've asked him to check the CCTV Camera that was mounted on our unit he didn't respond to our request. We are positive that one of the employees took it....

We had a atmospheric large room in the main house. With also a door to outside (shared) patio, with a tremendous view over the garden and the ocean. (and the stars at night). Breakfast was delicious, among many other things there was fresly baked bread and very interesting goat cheese. There is hot water for tea and coffee available all day in the breakfast room, but no water boiler in our room. You could choose to eat indoors or on the terrace overlooking the landscape. The restaurant is pricy, but the food and wine is high quality. I had the 'red meat'.. twice, because I couldn't believe how the cooks managed to express the subtle flavours of mushroom and truffles through the dish. My wife had the equally delicious espada, the famous local deep sea fish. (they say it is the ugliest fish in the world, but a delicacy). We arrived late and had to self-checkin. The very helpful hostess sent us instructions, pictures and even a movie of how to find our room through whatsapp. That almost gave a sense of arriving 'home' when we got there in the dark. Altogether a warm, quiet and peaceful place.

We are coming to the end of a two week stay in this wonderful place where we have an individual self catering cottage within a vineyard setting. The cottage is immaculately clean and kept this way by the attention of two superb ladies who work so hard looking after us as they also cater for the delicious breakfast available to anyone staying here. There are also some B&B rooms in the main house and a fantastic restaurant on site that provides a first class menu. The real stars of this place are the staff as apart from the two ladies mentioned there are Tony, Roberto and Monica on reception making sure we have everything we need and providing advice on all sorts of local information to help is get the most from our holiday. The restaurant team are extremely professional and knowledgeable about the food and wines but so friendly and they even gave us recommendations to visit wonderful Fanal and other local beauty spots Quinta Das Vinhas is a gem of a place and we can not see ourselves staying anywhere else when we return to Madeira
