I’ll give credit where credit is due: the food is exceptional and the chef clearly has superb taste, creativity, and preparation. The setting is effortlessly quaint and reminiscent of a bygone ideal.
That said, I had a rather unpleasant interaction with our server, which overshadowed the rest of our dinner. She brought out starters and unfortunately one of them was not what we ordered; a mistake of very little issue which did not bother us originally. After asking if we could get what we originally ordered, the server (wearing a shirt that said Monica who was medium build, young, shorter, curly hair passed her shoulders) bluntly insisted that I did in fact order the plate in front of me. I did not. How do I know? I have never in my life said the word “Aubergine” nor have I ever even read it before (I had to look up what it meant after the fact). The server was still argumentatively insistent that I did in fact order the aubergine, instead of just acquiescing and letting us be. It turns out they ran out of our original order, watermelon ceviche (totally fine, it happens), and I ended up eating the already prepared aubergine anyway (delicious). But, our server seemed to carry the grudge for the rest of our meal with a curt tone and minimal service. Unfortunate to say the least, as Restaurant Bago was exceptional...
Read moreDisappointed. Today we had diner at Bago. We had high expectations because of the good reviews. Unfortunately we were very disappointed. Aa a starter we had pumpkin soup, which was actually pretty good, although the coconut in it was a dry and hard. As the main I had black scabbard fish, and my wife had pork cheek. The fish was over cooked and the maracuja sauce on it was, well, not nice. The vegetables were okay. The baked potatoes were not much baked and greasy. The pork cheek, which was quite dry, came with the exact same vegetables but the additional mashed potatoes were like cement. Both mains we left more than half on the plate, luckily that does not happen often, but too bad it happened at Bago. We will never come back again, especially since it is on the high price too. The fish was 23€, the pork cheek 22€. For prices like that you expect much better. The waitress kindly asked if all was okay since she noticed our plates were half full and asked for feedback. But we were unable to say something nice...
Read moreWonderful location. 4 stars justified.
Service very nice but our starter was forgotten and then appeared on the invoice! Therefore service only 3 stars.
Food nothing special but completely OVERPRICED why did the fish of the day cost 27 and the sea brass 18 with both having the same sides ? Because it came on a hot stone??? Fish smaller than my hand 6 slices carrots , tomate rice middle warm and not very tasty.
We left hungry and had no food experience! Food no more than 2 stars because taste/price relationship not positive. Not sure why others rste this good with 5 stars????
We have 10 other restaurants which wete much better and 60% of the price.
Honestly we cannot recommend...
