The Docks Villas — Hotel in Calheta

Truly stunning location right on the beach and next to a waterfall and a hiking trail. Just so nice to wake up every morning to the sound of the waterfall and the waves of the ocean. Located in a very quiet and peaceful fishing village where after a few days you’ll start to recognise the locals and the fishermen playing dominoes at breakfast. Although it says villas, these are 3x two bed apartments, (ours was the middle one) and they’re well proportioned with marble kitchen and bathroom and include a very comfortable, very large bed in the master bedroom, something oddly missing in other places we stayed. Pedro himself is very accommodating and super willing to make things work for you. Whilst there’s AC in the living room, there’s none in the bedrooms so when asked, he brought over a fan for us which did the job. But Pedro really excelled on another occasion: a few days into our stay, my apartment keys slipped out of my pocket whilst sitting on the beach (admiring the gorgeous sunset) and fell between the stones and rocks, making them impossible to find again. Pedro immediately travelled an hour’s journey all the way from the other side of the island to give me a spare without ever complaining or lecturing, only empathising that he’d done something similar in the past with some coins, and then proceeded to unearth all the stones on the beach until very luckily finding the original set! We hebben 10 dagen in appartement 2 verbleven en het is ons zeer goed bevallen. Het appartement is exact als op de foto’s. Het heeft direct een huiselijk gevoel. Het uitzicht op de oceaan is fantastisch. De gezelligheid van het haventje met aanloop van mensen en de restaurants die er zijn, is een meerwaarde van de omgeving. Als je wilt, kun je elke dag zwemmen. Het appartement heeft geen eigen privé buitenruimte. Er is wel een gezamenlijke buitenruimte met zicht op de haven. De keuken is goed voorzien en de gastheer reageert snel op vragen en geeft goede tips over de omgeving. Wij moesten even wennen aan de hardheid van het bed, maar na 1 nacht waren we er aan gewend. Het grote bed is king size en heeft heerlijke kussens. De slaapkamers zijn voorzien van zonwerende gordijnen, waardoor het fijn donker is. Als je graag met het raam open slaapt, moet je (uiteraard) bedacht zijn op het ruisen van de oceaan en de naast...

Nice guesthouse. The apartments are small but functional. Pity only that basic things where missing like hygienic paper, dishsoap, .... I mean, the basic stuff apart food that allows you to cook without the need...
