O Gadanha — Hotel in Estremoz

So ..... we are cycling north from Evora in Portugal and arrived in Estremoz around 1pm. Hotel staff very adamant we couldn't check in til 2. Cold reception all round. We were ok with that thinking maybe it was the heat. We went out and had lunch. On our return were greeted by very friendly spanish woman.|Next day we asked older man to open wine and he refused.|I don't speak or understand much Portuguese but he became decidedly aggressive pointing to his wine in fridge and refusing to open wine so I thought ok, I'll buy his €10 bottle and ask him to open it. He lost it! |He was verbally intimidating and aggressive. |After much verbal outpourings from him while he opened the wine, I returned to my room bottle in hand. |Housekeeping staff friendly and obliging but 'management' staff very un.|I would think twice about staying there. This hotel is in the town centre. Our room was 40 euros which included breakfast. We loved our room on the 3rd floor - clean, comfortable, good wifi and a lovely terrace-verandah that looked up to the castle. The young woman who worked there was very very nice and helpful. There are three allocated places for parking outside the hotel on the street but I don't know if they can be reserved. The hotel has floor tiles throughout which does mean there's a bit of noise, and the walls between the bedrooms are maybe a bit thin. But we would definitely stay here again, a great...

O Gadanha is a really special restaurant. The staff were impeccable and the food was challenging in the best sense, flavours and combinations that you wanted more and more of. The very most local ingredients were put to incredible use and paired with sensational wines to create the an uplifting food experience. Particular favourites were the tender stem broccoli and the mussels with potato. This restaurant deserves a Michelin star and to boot they have rooms to stay in with a pool.
