The entire experience from start to finish was underwhelming. When we tried to check in, the guy at the front desk, who seemed incredibly lazy, told us to come back in an hour, despite it already being 4 p.m., the designated check-in time.
The breakfast situation is almost laughable. Sure, they offer bread, but that's about it. If you're lucky, you might find some oats or, occasionally, yogurt. Other than that, you can snack on pumpkin seeds. This hostel may have been a cool spot years ago, but now everything is run-down. Nothing is maintained. The ping-pong table was broken, and the rackets were just bare wood, with no covers. The same goes for the pool table and its equipment.
The rooms were dirty, and no one attempted to clean them during the entire week we stayed. We also noticed that some guests had to leave due to bed bugs, and while they were refunded, that was all—no apologies, no vouchers, nothing. The advertised activities, like pub crawls and beer pong, didn't happen because the staff simply didn't care.
To top it off, when you buy a beer, you're charged an extra euro for a plastic cup. When we checked out, we asked if we could store our luggage at the hostel since we were leaving in the afternoon. We were told we'd have to pay for that too.
Overall, the hostel has no soul, no care, and no attention to detail. There’s no proper breakfast, despite what they advertise, and most of the facilities in the common area are either broken or dirty.
We tried speaking to the manager, but all he gave us were excuses, like claiming they were having issues with their food supplier. Seriously? Just go to the supermarket and buy some oats—how hard can that be? They also tried to tell me that they had ordered a new ping-pong table, but people I met who stayed here two years ago said it’s been the same...
Read moreNice place to stay in Ericeira when you want to get in touch with others. Rooms were clean and quite modern. One downside was the lack of coat hangers, wet towels almost can't be hanged somewhere. Also there are no towels included (can be rented for 2 euros). The lobby is nice and large with a glass front towards the sea which is pretty nice. The sofas and the large TV also accommodated to a very relaxed stay when it gets darker outside. The kitchen was held very clean by the staff but also almost every guest was keen to clean all their dishes after eating. One small downside was the complete lack of pans which was a bit stressful and the bit loose control of the fridge (food was there open for days) The outside was also very nice with a pool, table tennis, volleyball field, nice seating and even a surf skate area. Staff was quite nice and helped with every question you might had. The program they have during the days mostly at the evening sound nice but are mostly executed a bit poorly (maybe due to the lack of interest sometimes to be fair) Surf Lessons can be booked directly at the reception as they have a cooperation with a local surf school (30 euros for either the whole day board and wetsuit or a lesson for 2h incl. board and wetsuit. Notice: if you want to book a board and wetsuit for longer than 2 days, do it directly at the Surfshop Na Onda at Foz do Lizandro as they have a special offer where 5 days only cost 70 euros for the set. Overall a good experience, would recommend...
Read moreRooms weren't cleaned properly, after a couple of days there still wasn't any soap in the room which was a private double with private bathroom. If you like breakfast then don't get excited, unless lining up for toast excites you while paying for aweful coffee. It was noisy, there is a noise policy but it isn't enforced. Looking to stay up all night then go for it, if you like some sleep then don't. We stayed while there were still covid restrictions in regards to mask inside. This wasn't enforced either, which isn't ideal in a packed hostel with travellers from all over the world. If you do have any grief don't expect to get any results from talking or emailing them. Complained about the poor room cleaning and apparently it was our fault for not raising it with them sooner!? Very much take what you're given and if you're happy then good and if you aren't then bad luck kind of place. We took the gamble and ignored a couple of similer reviews and very much regret doing so. Ended up moving on the second day down to an actual hotel where you can expect something for your money.. Very glad we Did. I've tried emailing these guys for any kind of refund on the 4 nights accommodation we lost with them and got a rediculous email back from someone called marcelle who then decided to ignore all the subsequent emails. One of the worst world wide...
