Hotel Parador Santa Catarina — Hotel in Miranda do Douro

A very good and individual hotel to use for touring the area, set scenically high above the dam. We were almost the only guests in chilly, wet mid-winter, but the family-run hotel (owners in residence) gave us a warm welcome and we enjoyed friendly service. There was a log fire in the evenings so we could sit with a drink and study the 1950s architecture. The hotel doesn't look much from the outside but its design and use of wood and stone inside is imaginative and unusual. The bathrooms are great. The owners had chosen some interesting prints and paintings for the walls.||||The food was traditional Portuguese with no fuss, and was good. A stay of more than a couple of days would need more variety to keep you there for meals, but there are plenty of...

We attended a family wedding at the hotel and decided to book two rooms pretty late in the evening (or very early morning). Was met with a very helpful man at the desk (should have taken his name) as nothing was too much trouble for him, Very reasonably priced when considering the standard of the hotel and the view, oh that view !! The wedding went on until 5am but we could not hear a thing in the room. The hotel is very solidly built with stone and thick wooden doors. ||Breakfast was excellent, and again that view !!!||Unfortunately we could not stay longer but will be back in th near future to explore the rest of the town and we will definitely stay...
