I spent 5 days at this Hotal in August. The occasion was my wedding, and the bride is originally from Nelas. I reserved rooms for my parents, siblings and remaining families because they were travelling from far. The hotel is impressive. The main hall/reception is very welcoming in the summer, and I think it must be also satisfying to walk into the building in the winter and see a very large and stylish fireplace working. Staff at the reception are friendly and professional. The entire reservation and check in process was great. I also requested extra beds for some of the rooms for my young nephews and nieces and they attended the request promptly. Rooms are of generous size and decorations are very modern. Most balconies offer an astonishing view to the highest mountain in Portugal mainland. Everything looks clean and shiny. There are at least two swimming pools. The exterior pool is next to a green space that is perfect for sunbathing. The environment outside is calm and relaxing. The interior pool is next to the spa and there are specific times allocated for children. We also tried a message which was great. The Tertulia restaurant serves top quality food. However, the most impressive to me was the breakfast. Every piece of pastry, fruit, eggs/bacon (basically everything), were of excellent quality. It tasted like all the food was homemade and not some industrial scale food some hotels serve. I had to ask staff to accommodate a number of requests from my side because I was travelling with my family, including children. Staff were always brilliant, understanding and helpful.|I absolutely recommend a visit to the Viseu district and wine tasting experience in the region. A stay at Hotel Puro Dao in Nelas offers you the perfect end of the day in their relaxing spa/interior pool and a perfect start with the...
Read moreWE recently spent two nights at this hotel as we travelled through the wine regions of Portugal on a road trip. From th e beginning the hotel communicated well with me as I reached out to request recommendations. I appreciate when a hotel provides them and doesn't just promote themselves.
The hotel was beautiful and had lots of parking. Even though it was October, the weather was warm enough to use the outdoor pool (heated by the sun) on a couple occasions. The view over looks the mountains and some farm land. It is situated just outside the City center, 3-4 mins driving at most.
We chose the suite overlooking the mountains with a balcony and the room was beautiful and huge, plenty of space. My wife even did a couple yoga classes on the balcony over looking the mountains. The bed was comfortable and lots of TV channels which is nice when relaxing on the couch, and plenty in English unlike other hotels we stayed in.
Yes, you need a cap to swim in the indoor pool. People seem upset about this but we found it typical across the hotels we stayed at. If swimming outdoors take a bathrobe as you walk through the bistro to get outside (a little odd)
Breakfast was included and was great! The selection fantastic, plenty of room and food options.
Check-in was easy and quick and staff were helpful when required.
Lots of restaurants within 5-10 minutes driving and a few within walking if you don't want to eat at the hotel. Location was great as a central spot for the multiple wineries we visited...
Read moreThe hotel looked stunning in the photos, and we went out of our way to get here, hoping for a relaxing family break in nature. But in reality, it became clear very quickly that families with children are not welcome at all.
There is absolutely nothing for kids to do. The hotel has two pools: one outdoors with ice-cold water, and one indoors with warm water. But children are only allowed into the warm pool on a strict schedule — just a couple of short slots per day, not even consecutive. This means one parent is stuck trying to entertain the kids while the other enjoys the spa. How does that make sense? A family vacation where the family can’t actually be together is no vacation at all.
We paid nearly €500 for our stay, and then were charged another €5 per person at the spa just for swim caps. Honestly, that felt like nickel-and-diming. And for children? No playground, no activities, nothing. Apart from a bed and a robe, there was literally nothing provided for kids — which is ridiculous considering the room rates.
This should be made crystal clear in advance so families don’t waste their time and energy traveling here. I absolutely would not recommend this place for a...
