Mercearia d'Alegria — Hotel in Peniche

We roadtriped through portugal and booked this BnB spontaneously. Checked in two hours later with a friendly girl who cleaned the room just before. Room was sweet decorated and clean. We got nice recommendations from the girl at the reception and discovered Peniche. Next morning we enjoyed the great breakfast - available until the evening. You can choose 5 things - we expected small portions but everthing was served generously. We took coffee (cup), orange juice (glas), eggs (scrambled eggs, think 2), toastie (2 double breads filled with cheese and ham) and cake (freshly homemade chocolate cake, big piece). Check out also very easy and friendly. Last but not least - we just payed € 126,00 (on total!) for 4 persons in two seperated rooms including breakfast - yes, it was low season (may) but I never booked a room with that service and quality for such...

The Mercearia d’Algeria has an upscale beach surf house vibe. It’s perfect for families as well as couples. Spotlessly clean rooms; unique and European beachy. The room was very comfortable and quiet. There’s a roof top picnic table and seating area which was great for lunch. A multi course breakfast is made to order in the family style dining area. I believe It was originally the owner’s grandparents home and grocery. The decor reflects the heritage and is very tasteful. They have bikes and lots of beach stuff to borrow and parking was easy, on the street. Peniche is a great, picturesque beach town with lots of walkability. I am allergic to several things, I had to pay for breakfast without having one (unless I want to die).

Employees were like “I have nothing to tell you”. EXCUSE ME!!! Who else??

“We had to give them a notice in advance” - are you aware about corona?? Traveling and planning ahead is almost impossible! You should be happy to have some crazy tourists here!

We have asked them in advance if they have smart TVs with Netflix. They lied us. No smart TVs. No Netflix. No service. Nothing here. Forget about this place, there are a lot of better options around.
