Extremely disappointing. Nothing like what they advertise.**
Our experience at El PenichePraia - Bungalows, Campers & SPA was deeply disappointing. We traveled as a family, excited to spend a week in Peniche, but unfortunately, the accommodation turned out to be a huge mistake that ruined a big part of our holiday.
From the beginning, we felt that the advertising was completely misleading. The photos on the website look nothing like reality. The bungalow we rented didn’t resemble the pictures at all. We found poorly maintained facilities, a dull and uncomfortable space, and, to make things worse, a strong smell coming from the bathroom that spread throughout the entire room.
On top of that, the place is far from quiet. The bungalow walls are so thin that you can hear absolutely everything going on outside. Getting a good night’s sleep was impossible.
We tried to speak with the staff to find a solution, but they didn’t offer us anything. We also requested a refund, since the experience did not match what we had paid for, but they refused. They showed no willingness to help or resolve the issue.
Also, many of the services they promote are not included. Everything costs extra: the gym, parking inside the campsite, and even bringing your dog. The total price we paid was very high for what they actually provide. For that money, we could have stayed in a decent hotel.
Another important point: at no time do they clarify the type of guests that usually stay at this site. It’s a mix of tent campers, motorhomes, and bungalows, which creates an atmosphere that didn’t match what we were expecting at all.
I’m writing this review to help other families or travelers avoid the disappointment we experienced. I absolutely would not recommend this place. We felt...
Read moreAs one of only two campsites in Peniche, this one is also pretty far away from the surfspots. It is located amongst industrial sites which is not a pleasant sight if you drive there. However, it is silent and there is no smell so once you are on the campsite, you don't actually realize.
The cliffs around the campsite are awesome and are a great option for hiking and finding fossils.
The campsite has a pool, spa and there is also a well equipped gym where a day pass is 5€ which is pretty fair. Bread for breakfast can be pre-ordered in the adjacent restaurant (which we did not test). Around 1km away there is a large supermarket that can easily be reached by foot in a couple of minutes. Dogs are allowed and welcome.
The people at the reception are very friendly and helpful, so nothing to complain about there.
The pitches are a on the smaller side and not well suited for large vehicles above 7m or so but otherwise sufficient and level.
Regarding sanitary facilities, this is where it breaks apart. The facilities really need some love and care as they are pretty dated. That alone would not bother me but unfortunately, the cleanliness leaves A LOT to be desired. That is especially sad as the staff is driving around on golf carts all the time so one would expect stuff to be clean, which it isn't.
Verdict: the place has potential to be a good option, especially given the overall scarcity of campsites in Peniche. But that requires some work as stated above.
So, to the owners/operators: please do invest in the facilities urgently and get the staff to take care that it's clean, unfortunately there are people who do not leave a toilet as they expect to find it and that is really unacceptable...
Read moreThe photos on the website and Priceline was way nicer and they shows apt with 2 sliding doors with a nice spa indoor pool. But in reality the apt are very old and not even build with real wood but some cheap material with lots of hole on wall, when we walked into the apartment it has a strange smell of mold. The floor was fairly clean but under the bed has lots of hairs and dust .
what disgust us is that the pillow insert ( inside the pillow cases ) is super dirty and the room with 2 twin bed has super yellow super dirty looking blanket. The apt windows facing the side of garbage collector and a public men bathroom ( without blind nor curtain so people can look into our apt when we come out of the bathroom or when we hanging out in dinning area. It is super small and everything looks like it was build in 1950’s and have not been update in a sense that it looks so old .
The only reason I give it a star is that the staff are super friendly ! We also found lots of flies inside the apt when we checked into the unit and they won’t leave .
On top of it we found a black sesame size bug moving on the bed sheet that crawled around. That’s when we freak out and we stayed up not sleeping till we can check into another hotel .
So even we booked and paid in full for 3 nights total $217.8 ( about $70 a night ) and we were so freak out by the bug and dirty pillow that we booked another hotel for the rest of 2 nights in Peniche. The price here was more expensive than our 4 stars hotel in Setubal when it is a 2 stars campsite. There is also no shampoo nor shower gel in bathroom but has some toilet paper and...
