Hotel Scandinavia Mamaia – NOT a real 4-star hotel!

This place is a complete false advertising scam.

Hotel Scandinavia in Mamaia is advertised as a 4-star hotel, but it does not meet even the most basic criteria for this rating.

Why this hotel should NOT be 4 stars:

❌ No cleaning of the rooms during the stay ❌ Very badly maintained infrastructure ❌ A small pond for frogs which they call a “pool” ❌ Basic, cheap amenities not matching 4-star standards ❌ Extremely unprofessional staff – no one trained in hospitality ❌ Incompetent reception, unable to solve even simple issues ❌ No phones in rooms – you must run up and down for any problem ❌ Staff does not speak English, very difficult communication ❌ Elevator does not work from the 3rd floor ❌ Some rooms without central air conditioning ❌ Mix of old keys and keycards – zero consistency ❌ Water leaking from shower cabins, never cleaned

Management & Atmosphere: There is horrible management – or rather, total lack of it.

VERY unpleasant, depressing atmosphere.

Common balconies which looks like a communist sanatorium ….

Rooms feel like a slightly upgraded jail cell.

Harsh, horrible white lights and gloomy hallways.

Building looks like it was built 20+ years ago with no upkeep or renovation.

Surrounding area is also in very poor condition.

✅ In short: Hotel Scandinavia in Mamaia is NOT a 4-star hotel. It is cheap, neglected, uncomfortable and most importantly UNPLEASANT!

Guests are being scammed into paying higher prices for what is at best a 2-star experience.

We were offered a room with a view to the lake - it was pretty big and clean, although the carpet was spotted in some places and we didn’t use any of the drawers as there were hairs and dust in all of them.

We stayed with All Inclusive - the food was pretty bad, they “recicled” a lot of things - meaning what was not eaten during lunch time, you may have found it later in the evening in a pasta dish. Also, low variety of dishes - 1-2 proteins & side dishes and a salad. It was not clear what was included into All Inclusive and what was not - everything that they served at the Bar was payable and the only alcoholic drinks were self made from a couple of bottles of whiskey / vodka and soda (not even bottled, there was a soda machine based on syrups). The staff that were working at the outdoor bar was loud and they were cursing out loud although people were having lunch with the kids on the terrace.
