Read moreThe hotel is small but nice and geared towards family with kids. The accommodation was very comfortable, the room and the bathroom are designed to have within reach everything you might need, I would have given to the place a maximum rating for them. But the restaurant is poor, due mainly to the All Inclusive policy, they choose less expensive ingredients and cheaper table setting this creates a feeling of cheap and combined with crowding due to small space is lowering the quality of the place. Also the pool chairs were dirty and dusted, another factor which lowers the rating.||The personnel was very nice and helpful. I arrived around 13:00 and my rom was ready in 1 - 1 1/2 hours, I changed my clothes and could wait by the pool, I appreciated it very much. Then I had a problem with the room safe, the tech responded quickly and it was fixed in the next hour.||Another plus is the small non-stop store near the hotel entrance where you could buy basic items at any hour.||There was also animation program every night, nothing special but still an agreeable time passing.||The refrigerator is very good, not a mini-bar, you can really use it for food and drinks chilling. My room was with king-size bed and a couch (double superior room), not that I needed a couch but it was the only room available at booking time. The AC was decent, not noisy.||The beach in front of the hotel is very small and narrow, I didn't liked it and went more to the right and respectively to the left where the...
I hesitated on the rating: on one hand the building lacks anything spectacular, either on size, design, or glamour; on the other hand the hotel is well managed, namely room was clean, restaurant was decent, there was even a fair attempt of entertainment. Let's be clear, there is a ceiling on what the resort could achieve, no matter what the effort was. But I appreciate that the owners make those efforts!|If I add as a bonus the free sunbeds and umbrellas on the beach, the result turns positive. When I say positive it is always in relative terms: Mamaia is still (slightly) expensive, with lodging, meals, beach. |However, when people get access through early booking at substantial discounts, as I guess is the case of Modern guests, the whole package becomes more affordable.|Although I booked only a weekend with a few weeks in advance, at full price, I left with a good feeling: in Mamaia one barely gets a comparable deal for an equivalent hotel, again in relative terms, which is Mamaia budgets!|In conclusion, driven by such impression, I rounded up my rating, not only with enthusiasm, but in full...
Read moreI am not sure why this hotel does not have more stars. I stayed at hotel Modern in July 2016 with my entire family. We had two rooms, one standard room and one studio. The rooms were spacious with plenty of sleeping space. We had an all-inclusive package and we ate each meal/snack at the hotel. The food was delicious and plenty. Staff was nice as well. A few cons I have to mention:||1. Check-in was VERY SLOW. We waited for about 2 hours in hotel lobby. That can get tricky with two kids under 5. Not sure why they require so many documents to be filled out and make people wait this long.||2. Shower drain in the studio was clogged, very slow to drain.||3. AC in the standard room was not working. We had a hotel technician come look at it with no success.||4. AC in the fitness room was also not working. A hotel employee came to look at it and figured out that the unit was not installed properly. It was just put up on the wall but not connected.||Overall I would recommend this hotel for the price/quality. If you want something more upscale, this is...
