This hotel was renovated relatively recently and they did a good job. The rooms are on the small side, but tastefully appointed. The air conditioner in our room was ventilating room temperature air. We didn't really need it, since it was cold enough during our stay. The room was quiet most of the time -- the only time when it was not was in the evening, when there was loud music from the town. If you have a room facing the lake you cannot escape it. It went on until 23:00, when it stopped abruptly. The rooms on the other side are probably quieter, but they face the parking lot and the forest.
The spa area is great and probably the best in Sovata. You get there by taking the elevator to minus one. There are two pools at that level, one with fresh water, one with salt water. From there you can take another elevator to minus two, where they have more pools, other water features, plus a bunch of saunas, including a really hot one. Lots of signs advising people to go in naked, but hardly anyone did.
The buffet at breakfast had lots of choices, including at least six types of cheeses, cold cuts, some fruit, veggies, salad, eggs, pastries, etc. Think quantity over quality.
In terms of negatives, the biggest issue we had was with the elevators. There are only two for six floors, and sometimes we had to wait quite a bit. If you don't have mobility issues, the stairs are on the side of the elevators. Finally, the service provided by the personnel. Sometimes it was good, sometimes it was abrupt. And sometimes we just had to wait in line, since only one person was manning a counter. But hey, we were...
Read moreWe were with the children there, great that we could have an extra bed for the small one or a baby bed (sadly not both in one room). A really good solution was to have another room, with an open door between the two rooms so we could put the kids to sleep and then watch tv or talk in the other room, and still hear them should something happen. The food was really tasty, always two soups and 4-5 types of mixable versions. Fish, vegan or vegetarian could be eaten on a daily basis, but do not expect a great variety then. You could also eat a la carte, we did twice. Nice to have to choose from, and actually way more tasteful than the general food that came in heaps. The spa section was clean and actually amazing, as were the rooms, but not squeaky clean. A little dust here and there in the room, ok, perfection is only there when you make it yourself. The park at the doorstep and the lake are amazing. A childrens playground in the park is nice to have. Inside the hotel the designated playground was empty. There is one in the city, but we did not have time to go there. We loved the children's swimmingpool. Be careful thoug, the chlorine levels are not great for small babies with sensitive skin. We did not take our
Read moreThe hotel is nice and clean, the personnel is very polite and helpful, the food is delicious but gods forbid, the SPA is not a source or relaxation but one of stress.|The SPA is overcrowded and very, very loud. People have no clue how to behave in a spa. They are loud, they go to the sauna without towels, they jump in the pools, and even though there are signs encouraging quietness in the salt water pools, they are ignored. Plus, people from 3 hotels come to the same spa, maybe this should be restricted to just the guests of the Sovata hotel. |For the love of god, hotel managers, please do something!!! Obviously, the current approach isn't working. Find a system that works - inform people of the decent behaviors in a SPA, put bigger messages in the spa, or some screens with big text / video about behaving in a spa. Create some rules, enforce them somehow, DO SOMETHING! If others managed to create a nice, relaxinf spa, so can you!! I came to this hotel to relax but it was a terrible experience, getting angry each time I went to the SPA because of the lack of common sense of the other...
