Brilliant Meseș — Hotel in Zalău

I can't be too critical as I didn't actually pay for the room but think that readers will want to know what to expect. Now the other thing I am trying to do here is balance the review so it is relative to where the hotel is, i.e. a hotel in small town Romania is not generally going to be the same standard as big city USA so I am trying to be balanced. ||||In essence this hotel is fairly remote and is I suspect mainly used for post wedding receptions due to its proximity to a huge church. I was there for a wedding and the reception was brilliant and the staff worked very very hard. This is reflective of the service overall. Everyone was helpful. ||||As for the rooms - a bit smoke stained, a bit dirty, bathroom falling apart, but functional and fine for a no frills stop over after a lot of wine! But this is probably acceptable for the region. Worthy of three star? - probably borderline two/three||||Breakfast - didn't actually spot it in the restaurant even though it was supplied! Just wasn't served !!||||As I said it was free and service was good so it gets three stars for this review. Just don't expect US/UK three...

The hotel is located in a very quiet area (by the way, the city of Zalău is quiet and not crowded), a stone's throw from the center. They have a beautifully arranged summer garden, all common areas are tastefully decorated. The staff is very kind and professional, I noted the cleanliness and the variety of fresh products at the breakfast. But the hotel room leaves a lot to be desired: the furniture is old and damaged, in the bathroom water was flowing from the broken radiator and from the small shower tub, the toilet bowl and the sink were not well fixed to the floor. Our room window was above their warehouse and it was noisy in the late evening and early morning - we could hear the conversations of the employees. The other hotel guests were noisy as well (talking and laughing loudly on the lobbies), but one can't blame the hotel management for that. Overall, the experience was ok but I wouldn't recommend this hotel if you need...

You can see that it is an old hotel that has been recently renovated. The rooms are cozy, the TV is kinda small for the dimensions of the room. Another downside is that the radiator is behind the drapes, and in the winter the heat gets trapped there. The food in the restaurant is pretty good. The weekend I stayed there, both on Saturday and Sunday, there were private parties at the restaurant (a wedding and one baptism) and the music got pretty loud (my room was on...
