I’ve stayed in many hostels over the years and around the world, but this is the first time I’ve experienced something like this—I got scammed. Clearly. Of course, she never showed up.
This left a bitter taste about Irkutsk at the end of my trip. I left without money, without dinner, or anything to eat the next day because I couldn’t make it to the grocery store. I hope at least they put the money they dared to take from a solo female traveler—already struggling as a foreigner—to some use. They should be ashamed...
