Visited Dakar for business and spent three days in the city. The airport is in the middle of the city and so easy to get to, it was 7 minutes drive to our hotel. The hotel is situated next to the beach and they provide free transport to and from the Airport. They also have a swimming pool and a restuarant but do NOT serve alcohol. ||They have a good menu with european style dishes. We asked for a local dish and were told that 'Yassa' was always served at the hotel morning noon and night. This was a whole fish with rice and vegtables and a very tasty sauce. The fish appeared to have been cooked barbeque style and was very tasty. Drinks were either soft or non alcoholic cocktails. We asked if they had Ginger beer as there was something on the drinks menu that resembled the spelling, we were presented with a ginger juice drink which resembled the consistency of tomato juice, it was very strong so we asked if we could have a can of sprite with it and hey ho ginger beer ! It was great and very refreshing. The breakfast was good at the hotel, continental style with cereals, yoghurts, meats and pastries. All the staff were excellent and even helped us get a taxi ensuring that the taxi driver knew where to take us and what we would pay. All staff spoke english in varying degrees but all better than our french. Next to the hotel is a pharmacy and some other restuarants. ||The rooms were large as were the beds and were equipped with TV's. There is no tea or coffee but they do provide a fridge. The bathrooms are small but well equipped. My colleague and I had rooms at each end of a corridor and while i had hot and cold running water and shower she did not, this was the case for the three nights we were at the hotel. (This was a trend we were about to find throughout Western Africa!). ||You can pay by Visa at the hotel or cash. Overall the hotel was good and the staff friendly and willing to assist us. The proximity to the airport was a bonus especially with an early flight out in the morning. It is a credit to Dakar but remember when you visit you are in Western Africa and some things may not be the...
Read moreHotel le Virage was neither my colleague nor my first choice for hotels but everything was booked because of some water event. Lucky for us we found this diamond in the rough. At first sight, I was disappointed because it obviously wasn't the Radisson. However, the staff immediately made us feel welcome. They provided us coffee, tea, and water which seemed to be above and beyond what they normally provide guests. If we asked for comfort items and services, every staff member always accommodated when possible. They dry cleaned my clothes within a day and charged a fair rate if not undercharged on some days. For instance the night before my checkout the dry cleaner stayed late and charged me half the price as a token of appreciation. ||||The hotel is surrounded by restaurants and street vendors so there are many options available beyond the hotel restaurant. Although you must try their milkshakes. Also, it has beach access to a popular surfing spot. ||||I understand if you seek a luxury hotel but please don’t overlook this hidden gem in a great location and with even...
Read moreI went to le gondolier with 2 children just to enjoy a day at the pool. The place is so dirty however and the owner so rude that i definitely do not recommend to do the same. In the weekend the fees are 5000 cfa for an adult (7,50 euro) and 4000 cfa for children up to 12 (6 euro). For just a little more i would advise to go the the pool in one of the fancy hotels. ||||In le gondolier everything is dirty: the floor you walk on, the chairs you sit on, the tables on which your drinks are served. I do not trust the pool either. I went ti ask were i could chsnge into my swimsuit and they took me to this corner with a smell of urine so bad that it almost made me throwup. I did not use it of course. I went to ask the owner if he had another plave or if he could perhaps have it cleaned, but he was incredibly rude. The personel itself is friendly despite being shouted at by this aweful person.||||Do...
