Crowne Plaza Changi Airport by IHG — Hotel in Singapore

My wife and I spent a night in the hotel pending our flight back to Sydney the next day. This review is purely based on our experience and observation during our stay there.

Please do not misinterpret the 5-Star rating we have given on the Service as most of the services we experienced were unsatisfactory. Please continue to read the review for the details.

Firstly, the Service standard at the Check-In reception was grossly below par. The check-in staff by the name starting with the initial ‘E’ does not even greet or have the basic courtesy to say a simple ‘good morning’. The same staff also processed our check-out the next day, not even the basic greeting after our check-out but merely uttered ‘ok’. Overall, her service standard is truly below the standard of a 5-Star hotel, not even surpass the basic standard one would expect from any hotel. Therefore, a 1-Star rating solely appropriate.

Secondly, the service standard at the restaurant serving the breakfast was equally unsatisfactory. The restaurant was clearly undermanned and badly run from the onset. Drinking glasses tray at the juice counter was totally emptied and not filled with new glasses. One would expect the staff to bring in new glasses promptly or within the next 10mins but this was not the case. This was evident even after 30mins. We had no choice but to use a coffee mug from the coffee machine instead. When we eventually asked a staff why the glass tray was not filled with new glasses, the response was “we are sorry, we are really busy today”. This 1-Star response only befits a 1-Star rating.

Thirdly, the noodle bar was only manned by a single staff, having to juggle between serving guests queueing for scramble eggs at one corner and guests queuing for noodles at the opposite corner. At one stage, the staff had to leave my noodle soaking in boiling water for a few minutes, leaving to serve the guests for the scramble eggs. By the time he came back for my noodles, it had already been soaked more than longer enough to make it edible. For this, a 1-Star rating.

The ONLY REASON why we gave a 5-Star rating on Service is solely due to the exceptional experience and outstanding services rendered by ALVIN at the Hotel reception floor. We would liken his services to a 6-Star Hotel service standard or beyond. Not only did his serve us with distinction but equally to other guests as we observed. Overall, we would dare to say he has single-handedly lifted the image of the hotel, which otherwise would have been marred by the below-par service standard by the others. For him alone, we would easily rate him a 6-Star rating and beyond if there is one.

Overall, the Hotel is nice and cozy and the location is great to explore the Jewel at Terminal 1. If you were to ask whether we would return to the Hotel again, the answer is Yes, and the reason is because of the outstanding and exceptional services we have experienced from ALVIN.

Celebrating my daughter's birthday overseas and stopping off in Singapore, Crowne Plaza hotel lived up to the "best airport hotel".||General Manager, Mr Greg Gubiani and the team have a strong customer focus, as he met us in person upon check in (and a few other times in the lobby)- a very warm welcome indeed. Having travelled the globe, I must say the customer service is outstanding and world class. Importantly when we arrived in our rooms (night time) the rooms were ready and Nick from Customer Relations has organised a Red Velvet birthday cake, snacks and drinks (and the following day a lolly jar with chocolate milk!)- a lovely touch to ensure my daughter's birthday had a special touch. ||We stayed in 2 Premium rooms directly overlooking the runway. The views from this room were a dream for both young and older aviation-heads - seeing Singapore Airlines planes take off and land every other minute was a hoot. Just be mindful that travellers should expect that this view naturally comes with the noise of jet engines, which wasn't an issue for us.||The rooms were relatively spacious and more importantly very comfortable. The only slight quirk was one of the bathroom sliding door handles and separately shower door handles had come off, a minor inconvenience. There is a real tropical vibe in the hotel generally away from the busy lobby. A mandatory gym session to offset the gorging of food (located roughly above the lobby) revealed a modest yet adequate work out area and equipment in a well thought out work out space.||In between tropical downpours we had a chance to swim in the outdoor pool which was lovely - not everyday you get a chance to swim in the vast garden maze a shallow poor with views of the control tower. My family have a pool at home and they were still excited to swim and navigate through a pool with 'garden maze' , something you don't see everyday.||The location of the hotel is outstanding. If you are stopping off for a couple of days in Singapore and/or have an early/late flight this is the perfect hotel for it principally due to the convenient location in Terminal 3 - you are able to explore Changi (short walk to the Jewel / or Skytrain to other terminals, or a short walk to the food vendors downstairs, if you have kids try out the huge slides /rock climbing downstairs), or travel into Orchard Rd via Grab/Taxi/MRT.||We tried breakfast one morning downstairs at the bustling Allora restaurant and the variety of its offerings was very good. My personal favourite was the Indian station offering roti and dahl lentils a welcome change from the standard eggs. The kids loved the Nutella machine.||This is definitely the 'go to' hotel to stay at Changi for a short stop off. Don't think, just book it...

We’re a husband-and-wife duo in our 30s who’ve traveled to about 20 different countries, always seeking a balance of comfort, value, and memorable experiences. We provide a bit about ourselves so you know where our expectations come from. What matters to us might not matter as much to a family with kids or a retired couple looking for a more leisurely experience.

For this trip, we stayed at the Crowne Plaza Changi Airport in February 2025 for two nights, booking a King Standard room in the Jewel Wing using a combination of IHG points and an Ambassador anniversary flex night. As IHG Platinum and Ambassador members, we were “upgraded” before arrival, though it wasn’t clear what the upgrade entailed—our view was of essentially nothing, and the room itself seemed fairly standard. The hotel is inside the airport terminal, which is incredibly convenient, though travelers should note that you do need to clear immigration and customs to get there. Check-in was quick and efficient, and we were in our room in no time.

The room itself was clean and comfortable, with a quiet environment (a major plus for an airport hotel). The bed was great (though I always bring my own pillow because I’m picky). However, the shower experience was more “flash flood warning” than “spa-like oasis.” The overhead rainfall shower seemed to unleash the full force of Singapore’s monsoon season, pumping out so much water that the drain couldn’t keep up. Within minutes, the water breached the tiny shower lip and spread across the bathroom floor like a slow-moving but inevitable disaster. I had to turn the shower on and off like I was playing a water-themed game of “red light, green light” just to avoid flooding the entire room.

Service-wise, we didn’t interact with staff much, but when our TV mysteriously stopped working on the second day, they arrived quickly to fix it. We also skipped housekeeping—partly out of convenience, partly because IHG bribes you with points to do so.

The pool area looked beautiful, though we didn’t have time to use it. Room service was solid, with good food quality, and the hotel’s location within the terminal made it incredibly easy for both flights and catching a Grab into the city.

Ultimately, while this is a very nice airport hotel, much of its reputation comes from being inside one of the world’s best airports rather than from the hotel itself. When judged on its own, it’s an above-average hotel with a few quirks—namely, a shower that briefly transformed our bathroom into a wading pool.
