Last January, I spent 7 days in Dämenovska, Dolina for a skiing holiday (I was a travel leader for a group from Australia and they stayed in Germany which gave me a week off). It was incredible what I got for the very low price! The room was absolutely lovely, easy to keep warm, bright and clean. It was a quiet haven, yet just 2 minutes away from the bus up the mountain, a few minutes to a number of cheap and good restaurants, a luxury hotel where you could get a massage (massively over priced and not worth going) and lots of hiking into the mountains, forests and to the two large caves very close by. The owner, a former ski champion and all staff were extremely helpful (my mobile phone got damaged and I had no internet or any way of communicating, so I could use internet and computer for free all evening). This place felt like a home from home and every evening I enjoyed returning. The communal area was hardly ever used and unfortunately, it wasn't as cosy as it looked as they didn't bother with the open fire (however, it was low season, so I think they'd light it for high season). Breakfast was Slovakian style, which I didn't enjoy too much and coffee wasn't too great either but I don't want to be complaining at this price I'd be happy even without one and it did feed me) I honestly would like to recommend this place to everyone, who wants a friendly stay with great service, and great rooms (with TV) and not be out of pocket! I would...
Read moreOurs was a summer hiking trip. The Penzion part was a bit run down, basic, quite noisy, so we were unhappy with our original booking, but the somewhat pricier apartment building is much higher quality in every respect, and we happily paid a bit more to move there. We ended up in a clean, nicely furnished small apartment (contemporary style with lots of wood), overlooking a fast mountain stream running behind the property and had a lovely time there. The upper level apartments have balconies and the big lower level one has a deck right on the stream. The stream is quite loud, but we found it a very relaxing nature sound (unlike the traffic from the road in the other building). The furnishing and decor was fine, the beds very comfortable. Breakfast was just adequate, service staff a bit hard to get hold of (especially after hours) but eventually they came through when we had a problem (regulating the heat,...
