Sometimes communication can be a challenge with booking rooms - and you don't speak the local language while trying to navigate a check-in that is a bit convoluted and complicated. For instance, the owner texted me that the "vault" had my keys but as I stood in front of the building there was no indication that the "vault" (keybox actually) was down the road from the front of the building - and the doors were locked to the main building I was standingin front of. Once I got this figured out, I couldn't find the wifi information (hidden by curtains in room it turns out; and I was confused when owner said information was "by window" - which window, front of main building, my room?). Of course, guest is responsible for some of the potential miscommunication if they don't speak the language. TV needed new batteries in remote to work, which owner (when he visited later in the day - he wasn't on site) replaced. Refrigerator in room didn't work but there was a small mini frig downstairs that I used; also bought ice to cool drinks faster. Shower definitely had some "wear" issues (being diplomatic); holder for shower head didn't really function. But I made it work for me. It didn't matter to me that restaurant was closed. Excellent location in town. I was also very grateful that the AC was working since I had been getting 'cooked' during the ongoing heat wave, and riding bicyclelong distances! Wifi worked as it should (and room had limited 4g service for some reason, so internet was critical for articles I was writing). Owner was patient while helping me to navigate remote check-in via texting (no one...
Read moreI had no problems staying here. The lady checking me in complimented me on my limited understanding of Slovak, and said it makes everything easier because she doesn't speak much English. She told me they don't have a 24 hour reception, but they give you a key to a side entrance, which you can use when the restaurant/reception is not open. I got to use it a few times during my two day stay - no problems.||||The room wasn't spotless, but no problems there either. Decent shower pressure, ultra-clean bedding and towels. Small fridge that wasn't all quiet, but not noisy either. All in all, good value for the €20 it cost per night. The beds are far from huge, so I'm not sure how they would work for big guys.||||The free wifi was a little bit shaky in an on/off kind of way. It worked most of the time, and gave a solid speed of 8-9 Mbps. It needs a login & password, so don't forget to ask for it upon check-in!||||They have a price list for the salt room in the basement, but it's free for hotel customers. Relaxing experience, comfortable chairs. No reservation needed, just ask at the reception and they will guide you right down.||||I didn't try the food or drinks, but can still give a strong recommendation against the beer they offer, Zlaty Bazant. It claims to be Slovakia's best beer, which might well be true. But there are several better, Czech options available for pretty much the same price elsewhere...
Read moreI visit the exciting town of Komarno in december 2012 and it was an amazing experience. During my two week stay I was living in this great little pension. It was a great room with plenty space and a nice, sweet and carring staff. ||||The only thing I found problematic is that the internet connection was bad, but on the plus side there is this little relaxing salt room where you can sit and relax from a busy day. ||||And even do it was a cheap place, the quality of the place was great. I would recommend eveyone who visit Komarno to stay at Duna...
