My recent visit to this hotel was a first and a great one. The hotel is centrally located in town which allows for access to retail stores and restaurants by foot. The hotel was kept in a fairly modern state although areas for improvement is needed in some areas ( see below). The staff was excellent and great to work with especially Ronald at the front desk and the manager at the hotel. I initially got a room with a very bad view (a wall soiled with bird poo) for which they uograded me to another room without any issues at all. This room was spacious with two bed rooms and a river/parking lot view. The rooms were fitted with air conditioning, a great comfortable bed (the main bedroom), bar fridge, free wifi, work desk, coffee making facilities, an ironing board and iron and the normal amenities. A flat screen TV rounded of the room together with sofas and a small coffee table. A minor few let downs for the room (possibly the hotel in general) was that it was not a smart TV which would have been great since the channels were limited. I also would've like to have various power wall plugs for which a two point plug or USB charging station would have been great. If you are from overseas or even local, I would suggest you bring an adapter with for your devices. The hotel includes a small gym which was great though it wouldve been nice if there were weights such as dumbbells or similar in the area. Breakfast was great for which you could choose between a few options. I am not sure if under normal circumstances a buffet menu is offered however due to Covid restrictions you have a fairly decent variety to choose from. The restaurant itself was great and highly spoken off when talking to locals. I did not dine there myself during my stay but from breakfast items and the full menu It seemed pretty nice. Its a great place to stay at and they seem to keep it really nice amidst Covid measures. I suggest you ask them about any measure prior to getting there although they are pretty good at informing you. I also appreciated the secure parking in the back of the hotel but you have to look carefully or you will miss the turn-off from the main road. All in all a great hotel, fantastic staff and definitely a place I would return to for my business and personal travels. As always...
Read moreFor the first time, my experience with Protea Hotel was unpleasant. Much as we understand the COVID 19 pandemic challenges, it does not mean that the standards of the Hotel should be compromised.
I requested our department to book me in at the Protea because I trusted your overall hospitality. However, was very much disappointed.
Our booking included bed, breakfast and dinner.
The meals were pre-packed, which I did not mind. However, the meals we received were much below the amount we were paying. To receive, cheese and salami sandwich with some fruits, for the price we paid, it's uncalled for. At dinner, the second night we received burgers with chips.
I suggest that the Hotel informs the clients when they book-inn, so that informed decisions can be made. I suggest, instead of giving pre-packed meals, rather offer vouchers to one of the restaurants such as Spur etc. As such, one can get good meal, within the price range that one is charged for. This also eliminates lots of starch, as the meals did not have veges.
I reported a leak in the shower of the room where I stayed, and this was not fixed nor was I moved to another room, as the Hotel was also not fully booked.
I am really disappointed about the service I received, such that I will report to...
Read moreThe service I am getting today is definitely not what I got the previous week I am super disappointed. First time in my history with Protea hotels nationally, being requested to produce an Identity document. The reason given is that if the credit card payment doesn't go through so the will have to trace me for the payment. The service is offered by Daureen at reception today Saturday at 17h10.
I am highly disappointed.
To make matters worse, I kindly request a room on the ground floor then she gave “Room 415” I walk on the ground floor like a fool looking for room 415 and I realised that rooms on the ground floor are upto 414. When I went back to reception I found Daureen and someone “a white guy” talking about me. I walked there while this guy was telling Daureen to point me to the notice put at reception next time when I come, not just saying that but with attitude. Honestly is this how Protea Hotel by Marriot Upington treat customers???
I asked where room 415 is and she still insists that room 415 is on ground floor. I told her that ground floor rooms end at 414 only then she asked the very same guy and he told her that its on 1st floor. I AM SO...
