Our family car broke down near Beaufort West early in January and we had no choice but to stay over in this town for 2 days. As we did not know the town and the guest houses we have contacted were fully booked, we were referred to Old House Luxury Guest House by another family member and was pleasantly surprised with this establishment. In this old lovely town was this oasis which was obviously renovated from an old house, uplifted with classic design to an upmarket and stylish guest house to suit any tired guest needs who is on a journey through Beaufort West. Our expectations were exceeded from the moment I made the phone call to the moment of our departure. Everything was neat, tidy, clean and in place in this guest house, the rooms and even the gardens. The towels and linen is of high quality and not old, stained and washed. The friendly, efficient staff and management made us feel welcome and cared for every step of the way. It is evident that they have a proper cleaning, maintenance and training program in place which was a pleasant experience for a change. The breakfast and dinner was divine! Especially the home-made bread with breakfast but everything was delicious and top standard, there was nothing to complain about and that is why they deserve the five stars! It would be awesome if they would consider opening a replica in the West Coast! We have already recommended Old House Luxury guest house to friends and family and will...
Read moreOur stay at Old House Lodge was a mix of positives and negatives. ||The rooms were excellent, well-furnished, and equipped with air conditioning, which was a much-appreciated relief from the heat. The bed is incredibly comfortable! I wish I could have taken it with me. We had a mini fridge and other niceties - lovely set up! ||Unfortunately, the experience went downhill when we experienced a power outage that occurred about an hour after our arrival. With windows that don’t open, sleeping became quite uncomfortable, leaving us exhausted for our trip to Cape Town the following morning. Furthermore, the house itself is not soundproof, and we were woken up at 3 a.m. by other guests leaving (you can hear everyone else's movements), which disrupted our rest further.||We were disappointed to learn about the frequent power outages only after checking in, through a notice at reception. This was something we wish we had been informed about beforehand.||The pool was a definite highlight of the property, providing a great way to cool off in the heat. I'd recommend not going too far from the Lodge as the area is not safe. ||Overall, while there were some enjoyable aspects, the lack of preparation for power outages and noise disturbances significantly...
Read moreThis is a beautiful old house set in a lovely tranquil garden. Rooms are spacious and air-conditioned. Unfortunately the bed smelt stale and rather reminiscent of the previous occupants and there was someone else's hair in the shower. The staff were pleasant and helpful at first, but as the loadshedding set in and the noisy generator droned on, the room got darker and darker as the lightbulbs dimmed until we had to go and sit outside where there was light. The manager spent a lot of his time just smoking, hanging around the staff and wandering around the garden with its un-mowed grass We had arranged earlier telephonically to have dinner there, but when the time came they were completely unprepared and struggled to make us food because of loadshedding. The dinner, when it was served, was awful - tough lamb shanks in a sharp tomato gravy with frozen veg that had had the life boiled out of them and were inedible. The tables hadn't been wiped and were full of gritty dust. After that the staff didn't come near us, obviously knowing that the dinner was bad. Eventually we retired for the night, only to have the receptionist knock at our door at 9pm, inquiring as to when we were leaving the next day. Needless to stay we won't be...
