This was our second time at this hotel and how things have changed and what a difference good staff can make to an establishment.
What a hidden little gem the Savoy Hotel is. This is where the saying don't judge a book by its cover comes in.
With my daughter’s matric farewell approaching, accommodation was needed as well as a place to take photos. We did not want the usual gravel road photos but something totally different and unique. Savoy Hotel came to mind with its amazing Joe’s Diner and old and modern-day decor. In April I went to view the venue and spoke to the manager, Jeanine, who was so helpful and accommodating, and she informed me that when ready, I could make the reservation. I didn't have to search further or hesitate for a second because of the warm welcome I received during the viewing. The reservation was made online at the end of May for June and it was so easy. The week of the matric farewell, I contacted the hotel and spoke to Lauren, who was very friendly and helpful, to confirm our booking, and being desperate, I requested if my daughter and her partner could check in a little earlier, as photos were to be taken and they needed to get ready before the time, and Lauren said not a problem and ensured all four rooms would be ready for us. The day of arrival, I phoned early, as we had a trailer and a quad bike on a trailer, to ask if we could use the parking area to set up even though check-in is at 14h00, and Jeanine said not a problem; she would ask someone to open for us, and we could use the space. It being the middle of winter, rooms were warmed up for us, which made getting ready much better. All staff greeted us with friendly smiles and offered to help and show us the way. With family and friends, we unintentionally, literally, took over the venue during photos, and the staff ensured we were all happy. We asked that burgers and milkshakes be ready for the kids to be used as props during the photoshoot, and it was ready for them at the given time. The food was so good that the kids ended up eating it during their photoshoot. They said it smelled so good they couldn’t resist. The staff, out of their own, kept the leftovers in the fridge for the kids for after their dance. Secure parking is located at the back of the hotel, and staff ensured we were able to come and go, opening and closing and looking out for us. We ended up feeling so bad, and yet they smiled and assured us it was ok even at 1h30 IN THE MORNING. It being such a busy day, we were STARVING. We ate in the diner, and the drinks and food were prepared so quickly. The milkshakes were AMAZING, the food (hamburgers) was delicious, the chips and onion rings were so crisp, and the steak was cooked to perfection. It being so cold, the staff even noticed my son’s hot chocolate had been standing for a while and asked if they could reheat it for him. They say it’s the little things that count, and Jeanine and her team truly went above and beyond to make a day special for all of us and a little easier on a mom who wanted everything perfect for her daughter. THANK YOU to everyone for all your troubles and assistance. We all had an AWESOME time at your hotel, and even family who stayed at another venue were upset they hadn’t stayed over. We will definitely be back...

Read moreHi. Stayed over at Savoy Hotel on the way from Durban. Staff is friendly and try to accommodate their guests but the place doesn't deserve even a 1 star rating. Booked the room for 2 adults.. Room is small and cramped. Not at all airy. Shower floor is sunken and can be very dangerous. Place has a permanent stale fishy smell and carpets look terrible. Food at the restaurant was absolutely unappetising, with flies zooming around. Please don't attempt the rusks in the canister in the room as it was left open on arrival.. Don't know for how long! . No help from the security to even assist with luggage. Won't recommend to anyone even for a night. Dismal experience for R1040. Place needs a total revamp....
