After a long and challenging drive as non-South Africans, arriving at Hoeveld House late afternoon was a huge relief. Staff were quickly on-hand to check us in, provide a welcome drink at that point and show us to our allocated room. Unfortunately we arrived on a day when the restaurant was not open, but staff were very helpful advising where best to find a good restaurant locally. ||||The property is very well situated for easy access to Sandton City and loads of shopping places and restaurants. As it is situated in Johannesburg, security is always an issue. However, the property boasts an extensive level of security. We decided to leave our vehicle there and use an Uber to move around to go shopping and explore locally.||||The property boasts 5 well-appointed rooms. Ours was equipped an extra large king-size bed and with a lovely big bath, large enough for two. There was ample hot water and plenty of towels and soap etc on hand. The room also boasted a Nespresso machine for a 'proper' coffee which was very welcome too. We also had a sitting area and two televisions to watch, on in the sitting area and one in the bedroom. ||||Breakfast consisted of a continental option with cereals, fruit and yoghurt, as well as a fully cooked option with a choice of egg. There is also some flexibility should anyone have special requirements. ||||As we had a late flight, a late check-out was requested and graciously granted although this may not always be possible, depending on whether the room is required for new guests coming in.||||In terms of service, nothing was too much to ask. We needed help to wash our vehicle before we left, this was done for us. All the staff were keen and eager to help or to answer questions and provide advice. The Manager, Andrew was lovely and is able to help make bookings for tours and visits to other places in the area should you require.||||Overall, we would definitely stay there again. If you are looking for a very secure, very quiet place to stay with good links to local amentities such as restaurants, shopping facilities and business requirements then consider staying at...
Read moreIt’s absolutely not terrible, but I wouldn’t choose to stay here again. Price wise we were quite satisfied but there is quite some room for improvements that can make a big difference:
Staff were not very hospitable — no one offered to help with bags (esp being very visibly I’m pregnant) and just watched as we carried everything up and down.
Breakfast was basic, the breakfast room felt unwelcoming and silent, and the advertised tennis court was unusable (no net, poorly maintained).
The rooms themselves were fine, with spacious bathrooms and comfortable beds, no baths — only showers. Also if you book the rooms in the garden just know that you can't really open the windows as people will be walking right in front of your room (it's the entrance). You only receive a small bottle of water, so we ended up drinking tap water and unfortunately both got sick. I’d recommend avoiding the tap water here.
Overall, the property doesn’t seem well maintained. There’s no real sense of a host checking in or making sure guests are comfortable. Small details were neglected — for example, cappuccino mugs we saw on a table when we checked in were still there hours later.
A little bit dissapointing, considering the potential this place could have. Spruce up the place a bit and do some basic team training would...
Read moreJohannesburg carrying a bit of a scary reputation, we are so happy to have chosen this property for a leisure stay while waiting for our return international flight. This property is very luxury, with very high security and a magnificence garden, pool, and outdoor rest area. Suitable for both business and travel guests. As our flight was at midnight, Allan the very efficient and kind manager allowed us to hang around later then the official check out, a favor that we did not take for granted, but fully appreciated. Prince was also very professional, helpful with all our needs...including cooking a marvelous dinner on location for us. What can we say more, maybe that we could happily have stayed 3 or 4 days on location just to unwind, either upon arrival of a long flight, or in preparation for the next one? Thanks to both of you Allan and Price for such a wonderful last stop in our brilliant African experience.|ps: ask the property to refer you to a secure taxi co. Aubrey and Igor were also...
