We were incredibly lucky to stay at Forest Manor Guest House in Durban with the amazing owner, Ernest! We do feel a bit sad that we didn’t get to say goodbye in person — we were rushing to a taxi and missed him — but the warmth and hospitality we experienced will stay with us forever.|The guest house is a true gem: cozy, full of local character, and every detail of the interior is thoughtfully arranged. Breakfasts were absolutely delicious, and the atmosphere makes you feel like you’re visiting old friends. In the mornings, monkeys often stop by — it’s so fun and cute! Of course, it’s better to keep the windows closed during the day, but watching these curious little visitors is a real delight.|The pool is beautiful and inviting, surrounded by lovely flowers, and the interior details give the house a unique charm. Everything seems designed to make guests feel comfortable and relaxed.|But the real highlight is Ernest himself. He truly makes this place special. When we arrived after a 30-hour flight from Russia, it was late and almost all restaurants were closed. Ernest still took us out to dinner — for that, we are incredibly grateful! Read moreDuring check in, the manager/host Ernest made several extremely racist remarks against my partner. I will go into detail about these:||||1. Ernest asked whether my partner was related to an Indian man with the same surname who owed him money. She was confused and concerned and after saying no, Ernest then asked what her Father’s name was to confirm they were not the same Family.||2. He then proceeded to tell a ‘joke’ that when a white man is making a coffee in Durban an Indian will steal the sugar.||3. He then told us ‘don’t take offence’||4. I informed him that due to his remarks we are leaving and demand a full refund. He then told me to say if we say we are cancelling due to a ‘change of plans’ he will supply a refund - effectively ransoming the refund in an attempt to escape reprisal.||||We are so disgusted by the behaviour of this man. There is no excuse for this and we will make every effort to expose the discriminatory nature of this man and his business, and inform all platforms that advertise for this property of this.||I have recordings of our conversation and messages from Ernest as proof of his actions that I will gladly provide upon request.||I can’t express how disgusted and disappointed we are.
