A Hidden Gem in Montagu – Perfect for a Peaceful Couples Retreat

We had such a lovely stay at Montagu Little Sanctuary! From the moment I first inquired, Darlene, the owner, was warm, welcoming, and incredibly kind — truly a lovely soul who makes you feel right at home.

The property itself is beautifully laid out, with so many serene viewpoints, peaceful courtyards, and hidden nooks to relax in. We stayed at Eagle’s Nest, which is tucked away at the top of the property, right beside a natural spring pool. It’s private, tranquil, and surrounded by nature — perfect for a romantic escape.

While the décor may be a little dated, it adds to the rustic charm, and everything you need is provided. It's fully self-catering, which we appreciated. One of the highlights was that our booking included complimentary access to Avalon Hot Springs — a real bargain and part of why we booked. Unfortunately, Avalon itself was a letdown as the pools were cold, not hot, but this wasn’t a reflection on Montagu Little Sanctuary.

The only issue we encountered was a minor plumbing concern in the bathroom, which we mentioned to Darlene.

We also loved that this is an adults-only accommodation — ideal for couples looking to unwind, reconnect, and enjoy some peace and quiet.

All in all, it was a peaceful and memorable stay. We’d absolutely return — this place is a true hidden...

We stayed at Eagle’s Nest, which is wonderfully secluded and right next to a natural spring pool. It was the perfect spot to unwind and enjoy the quiet.||While the décor may be a bit dated, it didn’t bother us at all — everything was clean, comfortable, and fully self-catering, which made it feel like a true retreat.||We also appreciated that the stay included free day entry to Avalon Springs, which added even more value.||Highly recommended if you're looking for tranquility, nature, and heartfelt hospitality...

The swimming pool was a highlight, offering a great spot to cool off and relax. We also made use of the braai area, which was well-equipped and ideal for enjoying a casual evening meal outdoors. The surrounding garden and mountain view added to the charm, and we loved hearing the peaceful sounds of birds singing in the morning before we left.

Although our stay was brief, the tranquility and comfort made it a memorable one. This is a great spot for a quick getaway, and we hope to return for a longer stay...
