We obviously didn't take enough notice of the comments left by previous reviewers and maybe our expectations were too high but....||We had booked in for one night based on the ratings from previous reviewers.we arrived to find the owners on the front verandah having an afternoon wine(s)with friends. Sherril showed us to our room. The verandah floor boards were pretty dodgy in places and we had to negotiate 3 cats. The room at the back of the house was cold and dark and in need of TLC . We never the less decided to unload our luggage and parked our car in the overgrown car port only to find that this was in fact the cats toilet as we both stood in their business without knowing. The smell was disgusting and followed us into the room. That was the end of it for us and we packed our bags back in the car and left. We moved to Swellendam town and checked into an excellent B&B .    Read moreWe were guests of Sherrill and Allen at the Montagu Manor for two nights. The beautiful building has a wrap round verandah with ornate ironwork, set in a mature garden. The rooms, although in need of some updating were clean, airy and comfortable.A very adequate breakfast was served in the main building, an outside option on the verandah would have been nice. Our hosts were very welcoming, nothing was to much trouble to make our stay enjoyable. We were given a free entry to the local spa pool and lots of information on local attractions.Secure parking was available. Although this B&B craves DIY attention its charm and atmosphere somehow outweigh the need for a paintbrush. We loved it here, accept it for what it...

Very welcoming and comfortable lodgings, I often wonder what a stranger would say about our home, tatty and run down and in need of attention perhaps. We just like an interesting and comfortable stop. We had no free ticket to the baths because there was a motorcycle meet on and they had exclusive use of the facilities. Next day probably Saturday we visited the market in the park, the town is a short walk down the road. We would certainly stay again given the chance. This is a late review because I didn't expect them...
