Stirling Manor claims to be a 5-star establishment. However, on our first night, we encountered a lack of hot water. While it’s manageable to take a cold shower, it was just the beginning. The electricity went out during the night, which we can handle as South Africans. The next morning, we still faced icy cold water. I reached out to the friendly Irene, who explained that the municipality's power issues were affecting the geyser's performance.
The breakfast setup was acceptable, with a delicious omelet that stood out as a highlight, but it certainly didn’t meet the expectations of a 5-star rating. After enjoying a smoke before breakfast, we returned at 6 PM to find the ashtray and our empty cigarette box still on the outdoor table, suggesting there hadn’t been any staff to check on things. While sitting on the balcony, we noticed two families checking in. It raises the question of why new guests are being accepted when basic amenities like hot showers and electricity are not available and overheard the guests saying that they would go have dinner and drinks in the hopes that upon their return there would be hot water.
When I attempted to shower again, there was no water at all. The geyser was still functioning, but there were plugs and cords scattered everywhere. Although they advertised a fully stocked bar, there was no wine available and as wine fanatics we at-least expected a Merlot to wind down an absolutely fantastic day. Having traveled and stayed in over 30 different manors, we are not typically ones to complain, but this experience has been quite frustrating.
The staff were friendly and accommodating, but I suggest that the owner pay more attention to the overall experience. We have passed the sign for Stirling Manor many times and have always wanted to stay here, the one time we decided to make the 500Km trip, it severely did not live up to our expectations. That said, the stunning view of Hartebeespoort Dam did make up for some of the shortcomings. If basic services cannot be provided, it would be more considerate to inform guests so they can seek alternative accommodations as the power went out again in the evening at 7:30 and we have not had a proper hot shower in two days, we decided to check out at 8:00pm and we booked into alternate accommodation which actually had the basic amenities we required ie. A hot damn shower. So in essence we stayed one uncomfortable night and half of a questionable night to say the least so hopefully the owners would compensate for a very disappointing stay indeed. We would be happy to return when the situation improves. Otherwise I would suggest closing the doors, getting your affairs in order and trying again. Winning recipe, very...
Read moreThis is such a great hotel. I heavily researched hotels in the area and based on reviews decided on this hotel. What a great choice! The hotel and rooms are beautifully decorated. The room is very large and comfortable with a spectacular view. ||But what really made this place stand out and even better was the staff. The manager Melissa is a gem, and very caring and kind. She helped me in ways I can’t even describe and went above and beyond her duties. She was also very responsive and helpful in arranging transportation to and from the Johannesburg airport. I hope management sees this review and is aware of what a stellar employee they have in Melissa. ||The other staff is great too. I ate a couple of meals there and the chef Patrick is such a great cook. The breakfast was very good and had a lot of options. Again, all the staff were so friendly and helpful.||I arranged transport with Melissa to have an Uber to take me to and from the Johannesburg airpot. The Uber driver was awesome and also went above and beyond and helped me out. His kindness and graciousness also won’t ever be forgotten. ||There’s a good restaurant a 5 minute walk from there which was...
