This hotel is not a 4 star hotel. It has all the makings of a great hotel but lacks so many basics. When I booked many months ago there was no mention of the Aircon not working. Upon arrival I was told it doesn't work and will cost millions to fix. With a very tiny window gap it was impossible to air the room. Fans should be on offer. Apparently Aircon has since been removed as a feature on booking.com, a reduction in price due to the inconvenience could have at least been offered. WiFi in the rooms is poor and every night I had to call my family from downstairs. The only two prong plug in the foyer does not work. There is a sign in the lift to use your room card to access your floor. This does not work so anyone can go in the lift to any floor. From a security point of view this is unacceptable. I travelled alone and parked my car in the basement and got into the lift directly to my room on the third floor. No security in the basement, it is dark and not well lit and so anybody can enter the hotel from the parking garage too and not be noticed by hotel staff. Parking garage is not accessed with a boom so cars can easily be stolen if people want to. I asked two days in a row to get a duvet cover for my duvet inner. For some strange reason I had a top sheet, a dirty duvet inner and a bottom sheet piled on top of each other. After two days I received a duvet cover which was torn at both bottom ends and the inner was sticking out (will include picture) surely getting the linen correct is a basic of any hotel. There were two out of three missing hinges on my cupboard door. My room wasn't cleaned by 1:30pm on two occasions I was home and housekeeping then tried to enter my room around 2pm to clean while I was showering. And as there is nothing to hang off a handle to say do not disturb or clean my room it's impossible to communicate that you are in the shower! What happened to a sign in the door? At night when entering the hotel the lady behind the front desk doesn't look up from her phone or take off her headphones to greet as she is too busy watching TV. There are basics at this hotel that needs work and management needs to sort many areas out. On a positive note the area is central and the coffee shop has...
Read moreI really wanted to like this hotel but it was not to be. First the positives. The location is great. The hotel options in the Newlands/Claremont area are limited and pricey. This was one of the reasons I was excited about this hotel which only opened 6 months ago. For the price, the room is neat with modern furnishings. Without doubt, Wayne and his team are exceptional (a big shoutout to Khanyiso), they were willing to assist (even within the constraints of hotel policy) and super friendly. There is also basement parking which is great. However, I was on business and wi-fi in the room was exceptionally important because I needed to have evening webinars. The in-room Wi-Fi was shocking. They struggled to get hold of the technical guys (supposedly 24 h availability) to reboot the AP (took over three hours to get hold of them). There were numerous messages about this situation from various people on the hotel cellphone, asking for the AP to be rebooted. The reboot didn't help the situation and I was moved to a room closer to the AP from room 428 to 408. The Wi-Fi improved. This technical call-outs and moving of rooms shouldn't be needed, these days Wi-fi is a non-negotiable and a basic necessity. They also advertise a tea and coffee station as part of the room facilities, however if you use the tea and milk on the first day they do not replenish the items. No where on the website does it alert you or is it mentioned by staff. After asking numerous times, I was then told and when I asked why staff didn't inform me, it is a sensitive matter. Come on, how cheap can you be to not replace the tea and milk in the room? For the price of the room, it is not too much to ask to have a cup of tea in the morning in your room. A note, they supply soap but no shampoo or conditioner, so bring your own. The room finishes are on the lower end and it will be interesting to see how the rooms wear and tear over time. I could already see wear and tear on the furniture after six months. Will I go back? No, the Wi-fi is a deal breaker for me and the fact that a simple act of hospitality like tea and coffee in the room is a seen as a cost saver rather than customer...
