Oak Manor — Hotel in Newlands

Myself and my wife recently stayed at Oak Manor. The price and the photos seemed to be something we would like and upon arrival it actually looks slightly better in person than on photos.

However we were really disappointed by the fact that when we arrived it was told to us that the room we booked was given to someone else. The room we received however was not bad at all, it’s just it’s not what we had booked upon making our reservation. We booked for a room with a balcony and that was a key factor in deciding where we wanted to spend our weekend. I asked that I be moved and it was told to me that all the other rooms are full.

We booked well in advance, there was multiple rooms with different options available, I confirmed with the owner of the booking of which I was told everything is in place so I do not understand why I was needing to suddenly be okay with the last option available.

I took the matter up further with the manager to have it rectified and his response to us informing him that we were booked into the wrong room was “it’s just one of those things” and that we basically had to make due with what we got as we had paid already and arrived already. I find this it be very unprofessional and frustrating as yes the room is of a decent standard but again it is not what we booked. No form of reimbursement, no measures taken to ensure our needs were met just an excuse with no explanation as to why.

I would say I semi enjoyed my stay here due to the fact that the facilities are not too bad however I would say be weary of when you make your reservation as you might not get what you paid for.

The place is clean, the facilities are okay however the bathroom is basic and the wifi tends to lose signal every now and then. The pool is nice and the surrounding area is nice but if you are someone that doesn’t like a lot of noise please take note as this place is located next to a main road however this wasn’t a deal breaker for me as I...

It would be lovely if the owners could look into electric blankets for the cold Cape Town winter nights as my stay was beginning of July. Please look into getting back-up power for load-shedding so that at the very least the internet is up and running, especially for work. Wish that there was daily housekeeping included in the price. Breakfast was not previously offered so the variety was limited as it was on a request basis. There was only a charging point on one side of the bed which is not ideal. In conclusion I would stay here again, just wanted to bring the above to the owners attention to think about for future renovations / maintenance (had the above been offered / included it would've taken my review to a 5...

The Oak Manor room I was booked in was a maid/helper outside flat, (maybe judging from my name the ownership saw fit for my residence) whilst the entire house was empty and the room was not as seen on the Booking.com app with absolutely tiny spaces of movement in the room. The room had no hot water to shower or bath after my long trip, no staff to ensure welcome or address queries and when you contact the number given at booking no answer or reply to texts are hours later. One window to the premises did not close properly, so imagine the draft coming in at night, plus outside the window there was some slimy water with small flies that flew in the room and welcomed my arrival in the absence of the ownership/staff.

Just the stay was horrible and would never recommend even unpaid accommodation...
