Nieuview Cottages — Hotel in Saldanha Bay Local Municipality

We have stayed at Nieuview four times in the past seven years (mainly cottages 1 and 3). Our first couple visits, the cottages were in absolute first-class condition- furniture and physical structure in pristine order. This is one of the reasons we have returned so often

Our stay in cottage 1 this past weekend was a shock. The sofa and sofa slipcovers in terrible condition (looked tatty, worn and dirty). Sofa is uncomfortable to sit on. Sofa seat cushions need to be replaced. Would recommend new slipcovers

Dining room slipcovers need to be replaced

Bed mattresses need upgrading. The foam pillows not 5 star standard

Wash cloths were grey

Downstairs shower walls had mold spots and the shower floor tile grouting discolored and looks dirty. We pointed out mold to housekeepers, who were able to at least rectify a bit of the wall mold issue. Bathroom basin and toilet need re-grouting too (mold)

Bathroom soaps were 2 star quality, at best

Entire interior needs repainting

Kitchen dinnerware, glassware and cutlery a hodgepodge of types and not a full set of everything (for a two bedroom apartment there should be a minimum of eight)

Heartbreaking about the loss of the beautiful sea views from the other two cottages (2 & 3) due to the new property being built, but still STUNNING views from cottage 1

We love the concept of this property and would definitely stay again in cottage 1 if owners would spend some money to refresh it! As it stands, the property in not 5 stars.

Booked this place as it was right next to the beach but when we arrived it was a construction zone. There were about 5-7 people working so your view from the porch is basically watching people put down the bricks the whole day long. Spoke to the owner (a lady) as it was not mentioned at time of booking and they offered to get the people to leave. However, you're still sitting there with the view to the construction site and so we asked them to cancel and refund as at this point it was a matter of principle since they didn't mention at time of booking. A guy took over the phone and started speaking rudely and refused to refund which completely put us off so we insisted further for a refund. They responded saying that they don't know how to process a refund so we just went ahead and cancelled the booking and paid for the one night even though we didn't end up staying there.

The place looked nice and clean but if you do end up with a situation where you need the owners help, am not sure if they will be willing to assist or just try and shrug it off. Our experience with them was definitely poor and I wouldn't go back to this...

Beautiful views and very well thought out accommodations. The secluded pool area is a gem, and the indoor braai was lovely as it's very windy on the west coast. Complimentary water would have been a nice touch, and no shower facilities were difficult as it's lovely to shower on beach breaks. The daily cleaners were very friendly and professional. No battery backup was an issue as there is load shedding. The security in Paternoster is definitely challenging.
