If you need darkness or silence to sleep, you need to find another guest house. There's a large common area directly in front of the rooms, with lots of tables, chairs, & benches. The manager says they're all free to use 24 hours a day because people will be respectful & quiet. Not the people who were talking loudly ten feet away from out tiny room past eleven o'clock at night.
Security lighting is on all night. The rooms don't have blackout curtains so it's close to daylight inside. There's no air conditioning.

Read moreVery fatigued driving on way back to CTN, I had to stop over and drove through Swellendam and Marula Lodge caught my eye.||I phoned to enquire and the lady stated they do have availability. Stopped and upon entering was greeted with such openness by the Manageress and was assisted immediately and a room arranged for my stay.||I'm not impressed easily, however the reception was very good, quick response to my inquiry and the Lodge is so nice and tranqual. I had a very good rest and sleep over at MArula and can recommend this to anyone. I have forwarded the Lodge's information to my colleagues who will definately make use of during their travells. I most definately will be using Amarula Lodge again...
