My wife and I spent a couple of nights recently at the Balneario in Arnedillo, paying over 400 euros for the room and a mud application for my wife. We were excited about the prospect of staying in an old spa hotel such as Arnedillo and regarded it as a special treat, but in the end we were quite disappointed.||First, I’ll start with the positives. The room was good and we enjoyed the warm pool. The bar serves a good Rioja. The service in the restaurant was very polite and attentive.||First issue - the food and wine in the restaurant, which we paid separately for, were really not good at all. When you pay almost 200 euros a night you expect the food to be of a high standard. We weren’t expecting haute cuisine, but we were expecting good food, well cooked. This wasn’t the case, the food was rather poor. We spent 2 weeks travelling around Spain, staying in hotels less than half the price, and the food was much better elsewhere. The quality of the food in the Balneario is a real problem, because there are not many other places to eat in Arnedillo, so you may go to bed hungry or disappointed.||Second issue - my wife felt that during her mud treatment she was not treated in a gentle and caring manner by the therapist. We understand that communication was difficult due to the language problem, but even so it is still possible to be sympathetic and supportive without a common language.||We discussed these issues on two occasions with the hotel and also sent an email. The staff listened to us but were not prepared to offer us a discount or even to acknowledge that there is an issue. This defensive attitude does not seem appropriate for an establishment which charges these rates.||A shame, because we think the Balneario could have a bright future if these issues...

Read moreI recently came from a 4 days retire at this SPA with my family and, generally speaking, I had a pleasant and enjoyable stay.||On one side, COMMON AND TREATMENT AREAS are wonderful, they could easily match with a 5 star spa. There are three nice and big swimming pools, two of them outdoors, and one of these with artificial waves. The indoor pool, of termal water, is very big, with jacuzzis, cascades and other treatments.||On the other side, ROOMS could (and should) be improved, as they look more like a 3 star average hotel. With an adequate size, the decor is simple and dated, some mattresses are old, too -especially unacceptable at a spa-, TVs are small and cheap, minibar has only water and bathrooms, while not dirty, are neither the cleanest I've seen. Soundprooof could be improved, too.||Despite of that fact, I still give a 4 star global rating to the hotel because I spent very little time in the room, and a lot at the spa or discovering the area.||The STAFF, as opposed to some former reviews, was all the time VERY nice, attentive and helpful, meeting all the requests with an smile. Marta, at the reception, was great, and so were Natividad or Alicia, two of the masseuses. Treatments were excellent, especially the 50 min. "Aromas de la Naturaleza" massage.||FOOD was good, in a buffet style, with great variety and very acceptable quality. However, there is an excellent restaurant in Arnedillo, called LA PETRA (Avenida Cidacos, 22), that serves fresh products from its garden.||Finally, the LOCATION is ideal for a spa, in a low populated valley, with beautiful landscapes and some interesting trails. Yanguas, 15 km away heading to Soria, is a wonderfully preserved rural village, with all houses made of stone, that...
