I really wanted to love my staying at Can Araya but I didn't.
It is a beautifully designed hotel. Especially when you arrive the entrance and swimming pool area are quite a view. But unfortunately the rest of the experience didn't match up the first impression. While this hotel wants to be a bohemian sort of place it really misses the vibe. Taken away the nice design it's kind of empty of mood. Maybe because there's no reception or not enough people around in the main area, it just didn't feel cool as it wanted to be. Having said that I can really get past the "bohemian vibe" but the lack of service for what you pay is why I am not sure if I would recommend this place.
First of all there's not an actual reception, one lady seemed to go from this hotel and the sister hotel next door trying to check in and check out customers and do a round of welcome at breakfast. In the evening there seemed to be a receptionist for a couple of hour but a part from that there was no one. All the communication is on what's up (which you might like or not) and we had to plan our arrival as someone had to wait for us. This I understand it if you're booking an Air b'n'b or renting out an apartment but given the standard of the hotel you would have hope that you can arrive within acceptable hours without having to plan exactly your arrival.
Secondly the wifi in the room never worked properly which was rather annoying as also the 4G didn't get much signal and the 3G was quite poor. At least in hour room on the roof.
The room was ok but not great, not much light and very hot as it was on the roof. There's air conditioning which we had to keep constantly on. The switches in the room are very cool, great design! but quite fiddly to work out that you wish you had a normal one.
But the thing that I really didn't like is that the cleaners left a dust brush in our bedroom for two days. Was left next to folded clothes. The first day it was left there, we didn't say anything hoping they would take it away, but the second day the brush was only moved from a shelf to another! When I went to complain to the receptionist who was there in the evening, she could only say she didn't know anything about it as she was only a receptionist and that she would the manager know. No one ever apologised for this and not even sure if the receptionist ever said it to anyone.
There's no clear instruction in the room how to get your laundry washed and we had to ask the person who was making breakfast. Same for the towels, they won't change them unless you make it really clear they need to be changed. The soap or foam bath was never replenished and we managed to make it last just about. Of course we could have asked for more but again for what you pay you would hope they can check what is needed in a room and that you won't need to ask for basic service.
I am giving it a 3 start rather than 2 because the interior of the hotel is really nicely designed but again the service you get is not up to the standard you would expect from...

The hotel's decor is elegant and modern, with an emphasis on natural materials and soothing colors with pops of colors the give’s Mediterranean vibes. My room was spacious, comfortable, and had a private terrace overlooking the pool - the perfect spot to enjoy a morning coffee or evening drink.
The hotel's wellness facilities are top-notch, including a beautiful outdoor pool and a serene hammam that offers a sense of zen.
But what really sets Can Araya apart is the exceptional service. The staff is friendly, attentive, and goes above and beyond to make sure every guest feels welcome and taken care of. The hotel's breakfast area is also a standout - the food is delicious and locally sourced, and the perfect way to jump start your day of adventuring Menorca.

Read moreAbsolutely fantastic stay at this little gem in Ciutadella. There are many boutique hotel options to choose from, so comparing them all makes no sense- each has their own style and vibe. Prices are expensive, but once you’re there within the historic quarter you realize it’s all worth it. Short walking distance to the best restaurants and shopping. ||I have to thank Jesus, Edgar, and Cristina for their AWESOME service. We had a last minute trip (as in a few hours short) so we were very unprepared, but they made our arrival as smooth as it could be. Always attentive, quick to reply, and super friendly and helpful. My special thanks to Jesus, a true gentleman, he literally drove us to the next town just to pick up our car rental since there were no taxis due to high demand. He went out of his way and the extra effort is much appreciated.||Anyways, the island is so beautiful that you’ll be out and about searching for the best little cove or beach, and coming back to enjoy a good nights stay is just perfect. Can Araya will feel like home- maybe...
